The most famous Salzburger of all time [1]
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart [2] (1756-1791)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart came to this world in Salzburg on January 27, 1756. Out of 7 children from the Mozart family, only Wolfgang and his elder sister Nannerl [3] survived. He started to compose when he was 5 years old. He never attended school or university and spent a third of his life on the road. As a young man he worked as a concert master and court organist in Salzburg and celebrated one triumph after another on concert tours throughout Europe. Later he went to Vienna and financed his livelihood as an opera composer, music teacher and pianist with his own compositions. In Vienna he married Constanze Weber against his father’s will. In Viena Mozart also became an official chamber musician of the court, which allowed him and Constanze to live well. He died in 1791 at the age of 35.
