Does the term shoebox flat ring a bell?

But don't despair if you have a small flat; with a little creativity, you can maximise your space and make it a perfectly livable home.

Take this 96-square-foot (9 sq m) home, for instance.

Its owner, Jay Shafer, who builds and designs small houses ranging in size from 65 to 837 square feet for his Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, has lived in this house for a decade.

With every inch of space used - with enough storage area to boot - Jay proves that just because you live in a small house doesn't mean you can't live large.
