　　老鹰合唱团具美国音乐承先启后的地位，其优美的和声上承Everly Brothers（艾佛利兄弟二重唱）、Beach Boys（海滩少年合唱团）、C.S.N.Y.以来的优良传统；流畅的旋律与演奏为民谣＼乡村摇滚The Byrds（伯兹）、Buffalo Springfield（水牛春田）、The Flying Burrito Brothers等合唱团的延续，这些音乐特色影响了日后乡村音乐的发展，九○年代之后像Garth Brooks、Tim McGraw、Restless Heart…等巨星或团体无不受老鹰合唱团的启发；同时老鹰合唱团也被视为加州摇滚的代表团体之一。
　　老鹰合唱团由主唱兼鼓手Don Henley、主唱兼吉他手Glenn Frey、贝斯手Randy Meisner、主奏吉他手Bernie Leadon四人于1971年成立于加州，1974年第二位吉他手Don Felder正式加入成为五人团体；1975年Joe Walsh代替Leadon；1976年Timothy B. Schmit取代Meisner；1994年Henley、Frey、Felder、Walsh、Schmit的五人组合现身MTV的不插电演唱会，这是他们1982年解散后的首次合作。这场演唱会现场实况后来发行名为『Hell Freezes Over』的CD与DVD，成为热卖的专辑。此后老鹰合唱团不时聚首做现场演出，例如1998年老鹰合唱团被引进摇滚名人殿堂（Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame）的典礼上前后七位团员一同表演了「Hotel California」；原本被认为是千禧年的1999年除夕夜，老鹰合唱团也做了一场跨年演唱会，部份歌曲收录在2000年出版的四张一套精选「Selected Works: 1972-1999」中。就在大家盛传老鹰合唱团有新作品问市之际，2003年7月中一支DVD单曲”Hole In The World” 抢先推出，但出乎意料地Don Felder并未在封面上，原来他在2001年也离团了，于是老鹰合唱团又恢复成四人团体。
　　《Farewell 1 Tour：Live From Melbourne》是老鹰合唱团2005年最新发行的两张一套DVD，内容是2004年该团举行的告别巡回演唱会11月17日在墨尔本的实况，由 Glenn Frey亲自担任执行制作。第一张DVD包含大部份老鹰合唱团之代表作”The Long Run”、”New Kid In Town”、”One Of These Nights”、”Lyin’ Eyes” …再加上Don Henley个人名作”The Boys Of Summer” 、”Sunset Grill、Joe Walsh作曲的”One Day At A Time” （新歌）、”Walk Away”（James Gang时期作品）、Glenn Frey的”No More Cloudy Days”（新歌，第三次在现场发表）和”You Belong To The City”，Schmit主唱的”Love Will Keep Us Alive”是「Hell Freezes Over」中的新歌、曾在英国发行单曲，共20首歌节目总长超过90分钟。第二张包含大家熟悉的”Hotel California”、”Heartache Tonight”、”Life In The Fast Lane” ，还有Don Henley的排行曲”Dirty Laundry”、”All She Want To Do Is Dance” 、Joe Walsh个人或James Gang团体时代的”Life’s Been Good”、”Funk #49”、”Rocky Mountain Way”；安可曲是” Take It Easy”、”Desperado” 共60多分钟。
