Thank you for continuing to keep the communication open. It has been a
dream of mine to visit China, but unfortunately the cost is quite
prohibitive for a family man. Sometime in the future I hope to visit
this ancient land. Incidentally, in the 1990's I was one of a few
educators who spoke openly that China would be the next great
superpower. It seems like my prediction is coming true. Hopefully we
in the West and our fellow humans in the East can grow together. In
1989 I was inspired when the Chinese students took to the streets to
demand their freedoms and was devastated when the GOVERNMENT responded
in the manner they did. Please note that I have the greatest respect
for the Chinese people, having made many friends from China and I would
never wish to insult them. Last night I altered my bumper sticker so
it no longer reads "Free Tibet". I have removed the "Free" since it can
be interpreted that Tibet was conquered and is currently occupied. It
also can be interpreted in direct opposition to the Dali Lama's own
opinion, which is that Tibet is part of China and that they both can
grow together. Thank you for bringing your concerns to me and I look
forward to meeting you in person in the near future.

Wishing you a great summer,

Paul M (The Teacher)

Subject: Re: FYI - A Forbes article on Tibet

Hi Paul,

Glad to hear that you read this article. Actually I am not an expert
on the Tibet issue at all and I am not really interested in that
either. I guess to learn the real story of Tibet we should talk to the
real Tibetan people (who actually live in Tibet) directly. And I
really wish you and your students could have a chance to visit China
(including Tibet) and see the real life there with your own eyes.

BTW, as you might have known, I met Mr. Kurtz in his office this
morning (under his invitation) and I took the opportunity to explain
to him that I am not in any argument on the Tibet issue at all and all
I wish is an unbiased learning environment for the young kids. I also
told him that you are kind of accidental victim here as my initial
complaint was on the poster on Ms. Taylor's door (actually I learnt
her name and saw the poster just today).

Anyway, I appreciate your interest in China and Tibet and your
interest in human rights in general.

Best regards,
