The EARS-VASS service provides all FOVs and all channels of the MWHS-II (Microwave Humidity Sounder II) and IRAS (Infra Red Atmospheric Sounder) instruments onboard the FY-3C satellite from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA). See the CMA instruments page for details.
Originally, due to an FY-3C on-board power anomaly, the FY-3C HRPT L-band signal was switched on/off operationally outside China. As a result, FY-3C only transmitted HRPT data over Europe four/five times a day and with limited geographical coverage.
Since 25 January 2016, CMA has extended the FY-3C HRPT geographical coverage to cover Europe fully and permanently, leading to a significant increase of the EARS-VASS service availability. This allowed the upgrade of EARS-VASS from trial to operational mode — a perfect example of the cooperation made possible by CMA's commitment to share its polar satellite regional data with European users.
The collaboration between EUMETSAT and CMA was reinforced throughout the establishment of the EARS-VASS service, paving the way for future projects. As a result, arrangements are in place for EARS to support future Chinese FengYung (FY) satellites, and for CMA to receive and use EUMETSAT Metop direct broadcast data.
Note: the FY-3C MWTS-II (Microwave Atmospheric Temperature Sounder II) service was discontinued in February 2015 due to an instrument failure and is, therefore, not included in the EARS-VASS service.
The HRPT stations supporting the EARS-VASS service are Kangerlussuaq, Lannion, Athens, Maspalomas and Svalbard.
The EARS-VASS data are processed to level-1b using the latest CMA provided processing package (FY3L1pp.1.1.3), converted to BUFR using AAPP (v7.11), and will be disseminated via both EUMETCast and the GTS/RMDCN from 17 February.
It should be noted that the IRAS products contain data with degraded calibration corresponding to the start and end lines of a regional pass, as a consequence of being part of an incomplete calibration cycle.

and via GTS where the Bulletin Headers are as follows:

IRAS: ININ[01-05] EUMS
Users wishing to receive the EARS-VASS service via EUMETCast should register for ‘EARS-VASS (Regional FY-3C Sounder Service)’ via our Earth Observation Portal (EOP).
