A Costly Engagement

There was no surprise to our engagement. It was anything but romantic.  We went to a diamond store to pick an engagement diamond together.  It took days to mount the diamond on the ring, so we had to go again to pick up the ring.  The ring is less than 1 carat, so it is not costly.  What made it expensive was what happened later.  My BF at the time had to go to work after we picked up the ring. So, I drove home with the ring by myself in my Camry. It was a rainy day. I was so excited about the ring that I did not notice the Jeep in front of me braked.  And it was too little and too late when I hit the brake. The Jeep suffered a slight scratch, but the plastic hood and the bumper of my car were severely damaged. It cost about $3000 to fix everything.  And it was almost the cost of the ring.  My insurance paid for whatever amount beyond the deductibles. Of course, my insurance shot up and I had this accident on my records for years. And, it was the only accident I had in my whole life.
