Kim安息。
In Memory of the Ever-Smiling Kim
Kim, I will never forget your ever-smiling face. I remember you handing out flyers at Queen’s Park, always standing among the brave protesters, no matter the weather. I remember the stories you shared about your childhood in Malaysia—how, simply because you were a daughter, you laboured under male chauvinism and discrimination. Yet all that injustice shaped your resilience and independence, empowering you to build a remarkable life in Canada.
Most of all, I will never forget your unwavering commitment to true Christian faith—doing justice, being salt and light, illuminating the lives of others. Your radiant smile reflected your pure heart and noble faith, so serene, so joyful.
Over the years, we found each other in the midst of turbulent moments in Canadian history. From strangers to comrades, to fellow warriors, we walked together with the conviction that ordinary people can shake the world, and that nothing can shake our belief in restoring common sense and truth. In life, we were also spiritual friends. I will never forget last Christmas Eve, when we shared dinner at the Rehab Centre, and how you came to greet me at the elevator—months after your stroke. Through your actions, you taught me what it means to love life and embody the tenacity of the human spirit. Illness never dimmed your optimism; your eternal smile continues to inspire me, reminding me to face whatever lies ahead with courage and grace.
Kim, our time together was short, yet every meeting deepened our friendship. Though I missed the final gathering of our summer comrades, our bond transcends time. Kindred spirits and true soul companions are rare in life, and how fortunate we were to have met! Your good and faithful work on earth is now complete. I pray that this is not an eternal separation between heaven and earth, and that in heaven you can take comfort in knowing that your comrades remain here—remembering and cherishing your ever-smiling presence. May you rest in the peace of the same radiant joy that once encouraged us all. We will continue the unfinished work, upholding the ideals and beliefs you lived so beautifully.
Rest in peace, dear Kim.
