And the Angels Sing is one of many examples of a film musical, which has been written to capitalize upon the the title of a previously popular song. In 1939, Benny Goodman had a number one hit song,"And the Angels Sing" by Ziggy Elman and Johnny Mercer.This film,released in 1944 is a followup to the popularity of that song's title. The story is about a singing sister group, their exploitation by their bandleader, and their subsequent rise to fame.
