自小立志成为消防员的佑(王喜)与好友拔(郑敬基)及兴(钱嘉乐)一同投考消防训练学校，在校内结识了沉默寡言的柏(古天乐)、外刚内柔的瑶(关咏荷)及富家子基(邓兆尊)，彼此成为好友。

　　各人毕业后，分别加入不同的消防局。佑、拔、兴及瑶等获派往由消防精英峰(李子雄)指挥的消防局，而柏则获派驻长洲。佑得峰赏识，两人亦师亦友。直到佑母突病危，佑才发现与峰乃同父异母的兄弟。佑工作表现出色，锋芒盖过峰，后峰因犯错而被逼辞职，加上他发现心爱的瑶竟钟情于佑，兄弟关系势成水火。

　　另方面，柏与女消防员翠(梁峥)发生感情，但翠却是其兄逸(郑子诚)的女友，三人陷入纠缠不清的三角恋情……
