Do Chinese Parents Ask About What Their Children Think?

Anyone watch "Grey's Anatomy"? I wonder Cristina Yang who is extremely competitive and almost egocentric might be what our daughters will become.

It seems that all Chinese parents push their kids really hard academically, almost exclusively focused on academics. Meanwhile, American parents are more concerned about their kids' emotional development and social abilities. They spend enormous amount of time participating extra-curriculum activities other than academics.

I've got one American mother told me how she was teased and miserable when she was put into the gifted-children program. I personally don't think anything is wrong to put your kids into gifted-children program if they truelly are gifted. The point though is: do we push our kids into the program even though our kids violently dislike it? Do Chinese parents simply ignore our kids' feelings and opinions since parents know best? Do Chinese parents push their children to fulfill their dreams?
