Norway's Forest Dec.7,2011

Tonight I saw a Japanese movie Norway's Forest adapted from a novel(1987) writen by the famous Japanese writer Murakami Haruki.

 

It is a sad story. The true love brings happiness but do so much harm when it is gone. This poor young girl Nariko never recovers from the loss of her boyfriend's suicide. She becomes so depressed that she loses the funtion and ability to live a normal life even she has another love and caring from their common friend-another young boy.

 

She was up and down, good and bad, in the good days, she hangs out with that young boy and they seems to have good time together,but she never forgets about her already dead boyfriend. She couldn't accept love anymore from another person although he loves her.

 

In the bad days, she collapses and loses control of self. She needs to go to a long term care facility located in the mountain of suburb of Tokyo, she receivs cares and treatments there and lives there for a while. The young boy visits her time to time.

 

Unfortunetely, she is getting worse, she starts to have hallucination,she runs away from the facility,when the winter comes, in the snowy mountain, she hangs herself on a tree.

 

Physical harm or sickness can be easily treated and get well soon, but the harm to one's psychical and mental health is so huge to bear. One can never recover. Such a beautiful,young girl(only 21 years old when she suicides)finishes her life just can't bear the loss of her first true love.

 

Life is so weak, yet strong, depends on who you are and what you experience. If you face the same suituation, will you survive? or finish yourself?

 

That young boy choose to be strong, he cares about her and try to save her so much. He chooses to be optimistic and faces his life with hope, he meets another girl and falls in love with her after he loses Nariko. His life continues even he loses his best friend(Nariko's boyfriend,the young boy who suicedes ) and Nariko, he chooses to be happy with his own life with a new beginning with another young, and beautiful girl.

 

I think I will do the same, life needs to move on, we move on, we needs to be strong, and look for our true happiness and purpose of living, have a meaningful life, be happy , no matter how,and what happened in the pass. Never stop in the pass. Just move on....
