Today the topic was Canadian Food Guide and easy home made pizza.
The registered dietition Shirley started her lecture.
There are 4 groups in the Food Guide. Vegie,Grains,Dairy products and meats.
The biggest portions is the first group: Vegies and fruits which we should eat the most every day and it should be always cover half of our plate for each meal.
Then it is smaller portion accordingly. The meat portion should be the least(including beans,nuts,eggs,Tofu,fish etc). Only cover the 1/4 of our plate or our fist's size portion.
The grain portion is the other 1/4 at our plate including bread,rice,cereal,pasta etc). The dairy products can be our snacks or a cup of milk besides our meal plate.
Each group of food provides different nutritions and fibers,vitamins,etc...
Then everyone made a pizza of their own.We made the easy version one using the pita wrap or English muffins instead of the pizza dough,it is really easy to make and fast. I chose the pita wrap. First spread the pizza sause all over the wrap,then put spinach(cut small),mushrooms,diced pineapples,diced yellow sweet peppers,sprinkled some cheese.
When it came out of the oven, suprisingly it looked really like a real pizza. I enjoyed it and I could said the taste was not bad.
