From naive to greed

X was my buddy back in China. He was arrested for fraud for scamming money from collegues and friends. Grown up in rural China, he was really naive and honest, and he remained the same in my memory. Years being in the US may have really changed him to a greedy charlatan. But then, would he stay the same even if he had stayed in China?
