Upside-down Map (9 years old)----Story

     Samantha and Rebecca were friends. They did everything together. One day something really strange happened……

     Sam and Becky were bicycling down the road to school. Today was a big geography test about the world. Sam was being very quite most of the time.

     “What’s wrong, Sam?” 

    “Uhgh. I accidentally studied the map upside-down and now I don’t even know what country is on the north of Mongolia!” Cried Sam. Becky reminded her that Russia was right on top of Mongolia.  

    “I wish that the world was upside down so that I could get an A.”  

     Unfortunately her wish was about to come true.

     The next day Becky woke up to find that it was sweltering hot. She climber off her bed and dragged her feet downstairs to the family room. It was the middle of October and it felt like 100 degrees C°!  

     She checked the weather update and found that it was freezing in Australia and bizarrely hot in Russia.  “Maybe the world has turned upside down.” Thought Rebecca.  

     No way. All across Canada people were waking up to the blazing sun and are surprised to hear that Africa is shivering in snow.

      But why?

     There was an unexpected surprise waiting in the school for the kids. An assembly.  

     The principal, Mr. Haggersworthy, announced that we would have extra classes this week because the heat makes traffic and the buses wouldn’t get here in time.  

     “ Oh, no.” groaned Sam. What a disaster. 

     “ We’ve got to fix this up. “ replied Becky. 

     “But how?” asked Sam.  

     “Well Sam, if it only started after you turned the map upside-down, then……”

     It was Friday afternoon. The girls went to Sam’s house! They were going to go and flip the map over and then everything would be back to normal. They arrived, only to find that the map was missing! 

     Becky searched around the house and Sam looked in her workplace. When Becky came back, she found that the map was flipped over and she asked Sam where she found it.  

     “Oh, the same place we found our science project and the stink bombs. “ replied Sam.  

     They looked at each other and said at the same time, “Willy.” 

     Willy was Sam’s annoying brother. He hid everything Sam needed at just that moment.  

     “Oh, well.” Said becky. 

     Looks like this story has a happy ending.
