Spain and Portugal (8) - Belém, Lisbon

If you only have one day to spend in Lisbon, go to Belém. It has so much to see. We spent a whole day there, and barely scratched the surface.

From Praça da Figueira (Square of the Fig Tree), Belém is an easy tram (#15) ride.

11. Built in the early 16th century, Belém Tower was part of a defense system at the mouth of the Tagus River and a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon.

14. Monument to the Discoveries. Built between 1958 and 1960, the monument is not that impressive, but the view up there was amazing.
