After seeing all the "important" stuff Paris has to offer, we checked out some other sites in Paris too.
Père Lachaise Cemetery, one of the most famous cemeteries in the world. We didn't think we would have time for this, so I didn't do any research ahead of time. We took the metro and got off at Père Lachaise. We probably should get off at Gambetta instead. That way we would have walked downhill to visit the rest of the cemetery.
1. Frédéric Chopin's grave at Paris' Père Lachaise Cemetery.
2. Jim Morrison's grave at Paris' Père Lachaise Cemetery. Even though Jim Morrison died almost 40 years ago, people still flood to his grave that there is a barrier in place to protect his grave site. This one lady who stayed there for a long time. She had a cell phone camera and kept taking the same picture of the grave over and over while sobbing quietly. That is some fan.
3. Oscar Wilde's grave at Paris' Père Lachaise Cemetery. By tradition, Wilde's admirers kiss the art-deco monument while wearing lipstick.
4. A performing artist on Paris metro. He had his equipment on a luggage cart, so between stops, he could easily get off a carriage, and get on another one.
5. The 'Old' Opera House near Galeries Lafayette.
6. Lamp posts near the 'Old' Opera House.
7. Inside Galeries Lafayette, a famous French department store.
8. The Grande Arche at La Défense, a major business district for the city of Paris.
Some tips from the trip:
- Get a Paris Museum Pass!!! I can't tell you how great the pass is. Not only did it save us money, it also saved us so much time by allowing us to skip the ticket line.
- U.S. credit cards did not work at the train/metro stations' ticket machine or at the pump, so either use cash or pay with credit card at ticket window/gas station attendant.
