Help Can't Wait

To address humanitarian crises around the world, musical organizations at Yale have organized several benefit concerts to raise funds for relief.

The most recent "Help Can't Wait" benefit concert took place in April 2008. All proceeds were given to major charities providing services to the victims of the earthquakes in China, the typhoon in Myanmar, and the tornadoes in the United States.

To ensure that these three disaster areas would be served, benefits were shared by the American Red Cross, Save the Children, and AmeriCares.

The first Help Can't Wait benefit concert was organized in response to the tsunami and earthquakes in Southeast Asia and the Pacific in 2004. The second, in 2005, devoted its proceeds to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Yale副校长Linda Koch Lorimer 关于中国地震给所有Yale师生员工的信
To the Yale Community:
Many members of our community have been deeply concerned about the terrible disasters that have occurred in recent weeks. I wanted you to know of several campus events to raise funds for assistance to victims of the earthquake in China, the cyclone in Myanmar, and tornadoes in the U.S.
On Saturday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. in Davies Auditorium in Becton Center, the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars at Yale is planning a movie night fund-raiser, with proceeds to assist earthquake victims in China. More information is available at www.acssy.org/.
Next Wednesday, May 21, at 7:00 p.m. in Sprague Hall, musicians from Yale and the New Haven community will perform a special benefit concert titled "Help Can't Wait." Information about the concert, including suggested donation amounts, is posted at http://www.yale.edu/music/ysm.html .
In addition to these on-campus efforts, there are numerous relief agencies responding to these tragedies, and I encourage you to do what you can to help.
Sincerely,
Linda Koch Lorimer
