4/25/09, some students from the Boston Latin School musician's society and the Friends of Chinese Culture dance group, went to 中华颐养院 and conducted a performance. The elders liked it very much. Some elderly people followed the music 手舞足蹈, some had big smiles on their faces. The 40 minute performance went fast, the senior residents asked us for more. Three pairs of dancers had to go back to the stage for the last Waltz an encore. After the performance, some elders asked us, "Please come more often", and some requested, "Please sing some old songs." There were two old gentlemen waved to me. When I got closer to them, they showed their thumbs up and nodded their heads. I could read their lips, they said: “好!”, “谢谢!” One old lady kissed my hand to show her appreciation- because she could not talk. A nurse told me, some senior residents could not open their eyes for too long, but they were still listening, enjoying.
My mother is a resident of 中华颐养院. Her mental ability is one of the best among the senior residents. But the severe osteoporosis and unbearable pain have made her physically disable, sometimes she feels 痛不欲生。Our performance took her mind out of her pain for almost an hour that had shortened her long day.
Through my mother's appreciation and others, I feel proud for dancing not only for my own health, but for the joy of others.
