A good but not the best US Open final match

Roddick deserved a lot of credit for giving Federer a run for his money after going down 5-0 in the first set. I think that's the effect of Conner's never say die attitude. Federer definitely had a let down after an easy first set. He gift-wrapped that set to Roddick. I've not seen Roddick played this well as he did in set#2 and #3 for a long time. Federer actually looked a little loss for a little while, He did not have his usual determination during that span. We saw a true Roger in 4th set though. He was as determined as he ever was at the start of the 4th set. He went for his big forehands which I think he did not do enough of in set#2 and #3. Roddick did not know what to do. He looked like he lost his confidence completely.
One stats is quite interesting: Federer out aced Roddick, the accounts was something like 20 to 10(not confirmed). It proved once again that speed is not everything for the serve. Placement is more important.
There is one thing I don't quite understand. Why would Roddick keep coming to the net? He is not that good a volleyer, on top of that, Roger's passing shots are too good. A lot of times you can even see Roger was trying to drew Roddick to the net so he can pass him. Why would Roddick keep rumbling up to the net on his own term? I don't have the actual stats, but Roddick's successful rate at the net is got to be less than 20%.
All and all, this was one of the better match in this year's US Open. Both players played well. It was high quality stuff.
Last note: the organizers and the adverting companies must be laughing their ways to the bank this year: their poster girl Sharapova won the women's single, and Roddick and Federer were playing in the finals. What more can they ask for!!
Now that the US Open is over, my life will go back to normal.
