立春偶成 – （宋）张栻

 

律回岁晚冰霜少，春到人间草木知。

便觉眼前生意满，东风吹水绿参差。

 

A Quatrain by Zhang Shi (Soong dynasty)

(An Impromptu on Lichun - Beginning of Spring)

 

Frost and ice thaw at the year’s end,

Spring’s coming, trees and grass first know.

Full life feasts eyes with a lush blend,

Green streams ripple, as east winds blow.
