Human Perfectibility

(2022-03-08 19:06:17) 下一个

We are born imperfect with the seed of perfection buried deep within, of imperfect parents, within an imperfect society. As a result of these imperfect foundations, we bungle our lives time and get wounded, and feel the sorrow and pain of living.

Human perfection doesn;t mean that we become gods but become one that has reached the highest potentials within ourselves that may make us look superhuman. Carl Jung calls this maturation process "individuation", in which the individual transcends the ego and realizes the self. It is a desired state of being, in which the different aspects of consciousness reflect the will of the true self. It is an adventure on the path of righteousness- you experience  "fully functioning" "functional autonomy" "creative selfhood" . Such a realized individual has arrived at a deeper understanding of eality, is clear about the hierarchy of the values in life, has attained self-mastery and has transcended the normal levels of human consiousness. They have freed themselves from the sorrows and unhappiness.

Human beings has a hierarchy of needs:

  • basic
  • security
  • belonging
  • self-esteem
  • self-actualization

The needs on the self-actualization level sonstitute the pursuit of such values as truth, beauty and harmony.

The qualties of the self-actualized individual have the following traints:

  • they have accurate perception of reality and they accept the reality with peace and ease.
  • they accept themselves as they are, including their shortcomings and weaknesses. In the same manner, they do accept others.
  • they exhibit a high degree of spontaneity. They are not limited by conventions and they are not rebelious to universal laws and principles.
  • they are not ego-centered. they are occupied with problems or causes outside their own skin. they are mission oriented.
  • they enjoy solitude and privacy and are detached and unruffled by events that might upset majorities.
  • they are autonomous and not dependent on culture and environment. they are dependent for their own development and continued growth upon their own potentialities and latent resources
  • they exhibit a continual freshness of appreciation. they repeatedly experience awe and wonder and pleasure in their everyday world
  • they have mystic experiences or oceanic feelings
  • they have a deep feeling of compassion for human beings in general
  • they have deep interpersonal relations with others
  • they are democratic in their attibude. they do not discriminat e on the basis of class, race or color
  • they are highly ethical; they have a clear sense of right and wrong
  • they have a healthy, nonhostile sense of humor
  • they are creative. they have a fresh, naive, direct way of looking at things
