秀秀我们以前的房子 （图）

大约半个月前， 为了 make fun of “知名度比较高” 的中篇连载， 我 post 了这个贴

对于他在目前的不好的经济形势下提出的建议， 我当然应该接受和采纳。 记得当时我跟老地主 “rnd” 说过要贴一贴我们的小房子。 我说话一般还是算数的。 这不现在刚从 NC 滑雪度假回来马上就来还债了。

现在什么东西都 shrink， 房价，股市，401k，尤其是油价，简直是直线下滑。我们家坛的房子当然也是应该 shrink的。


噢，对了， 记得 “一家三口” 说过这个： “我买房子的价格连我们公母俩收入的1。5倍都不到。”

想想我们以前也有过这种 situation， 我和我wife 刚结婚时在 Memphis 买的房子的价格就是不到我们俩收入的1。5倍。当时我是住院医师第一年， 工资与 post-doc 差不多， 我 wife 是 CPA，收入比我高。 我们好像也是 3 年后就将贷款全部付清了。

这房子是 50 年代建的， 比较旧， 1，700 SF 不到，2 bedroom， 2 full bathroom。 还有一个大的 den 可以用作 bedroom。 位于 Memphis 的 Middletown， 离我上班的在 downtown 的 medical center 才 4 个 miles。



前面和 front yard， 临街的。






只有一个车库， 有时非常不方便 （根据我和我 wife 上班的时间）。

俩年多后有了儿子，期间我父母亲来住了 8 个月， 这是这个房子住的人数最多的时候。






还有一只狗和猫。







这就是我们的 Spencer。








儿子很喜欢去离家不远的 playground 玩。 我有时下班早的话，也经常带他去的。








Memphis 每年也有雪。







开车 6 个 miles 到 Mud Island， 就可以看到密西西比河。







坐在车里， 看雨中的密西西比河。







病理住院医师后面俩年， 还有皮肤病理 fellowship 俩年都还是比较轻松的， 可能与我的背景有关。 一般下班比我 wife 要早，去daycare接了儿子后，也会做饭的， 可能比我 wife 做得还多一些。 有图为证， 哈哈哈。




其实在我刚开始做病理住院医师的头几年，病理的 job market 一直相当不好，记得当时还很羡慕住院医师毕业后能留在 department 里做 faculty 的一个美国医学院毕业生， 他的 title 是 instructor， salary 也就 10 W 左右。

当然皮肤病理专业一直是比较热门 和 competitive 的， job market 和 收入都比较好。 但当时我想做皮肤病理绝对不是冲着钱去的， absolutely my great interest and passion in dermatopathology (皮肤病理).

可能这句话是有道理的： 为钱去做，不太会做好。 只有真正有兴趣，才能做好。
But if the subspecialty you are very interested in is also a very profitable one, then you must be very lucky.
