虽然父母早就从农村走进城市，但农民基因很显然隔代遗传到我身上。从小我就对花花草草有浓厚的兴趣，有了自己的院子之后更是一发而不可收

不过一般来说，一个院子不要多于10种植物，不然看着很乱。
可以有一两颗落叶树，1两棵长青树，另外灌木，ornamental grass, perennial, annual 等等。
数目以1，3，5，7为好。比如1棵medium size tree, 3 shrubs, 5 irises, 7 snapdragons.小的花要多种，连成片，不然没有impact.
If you want to have season long interests, you need to choose plants that bloom in different seasons. For example, iris blooms in the spring, snapdragon in summer, garden phlox in late summer, and mum(菊花) in fall. You will have to do some research on what grows well in your area and choose plants accordingly.
It is better to choose a theme and stick with it. For example, a white garden has all white flowered plants. A cottage garden has a lot of perennials. Look through books to find what style suits your taste.
