Russian Attacks Isolate Southern Ukrainian Bessarabia

Dnistrivka The entire southern area of Ukrainian Bessarabia is under heavy attack, so much so that it remains isolated from the rest of the Odesa region. Exactly one week ago, Ireportedfrom Kodyma that Russian saboteurs and raiders (DRG) were infiltrating the border between Ukraine and that part of Moldova that has self-proclaimed as the Republic of Pridnestrovie (also known as Transnistria). Unlike the sporadic infiltrations recorded over the past 12 years i.e., since the Russian Federation began doing the same in Donbas and Crimea these penetrations by Russian armed groups have continued to unsettle the local Ukrainian civilian population, prompting them to impose a more stringent curfew than the one already in place. Increasingly, these reports were followed by others ofmultirotor FPV drones and spy balloons flying over the airspace of the so-called Pridnestrovie (i.e., Moldova) and invading Ukrainian airspace.
These intrusions persisted until three days ago whenother long-range, high-explosive UAVs swept into the Dnister lagoon areas.
One of them struck a civilian car crossing the Maiaky Bridge, killing a woman and seriously injuring her three children. Others continued to target the bridge, i.e. the key logistics artery that runs across it and connects that portion of Ukrainian Bessarabia to the rest of Odesa Oblast.
Increasingly, Russian bombings of the Dnister lagoon area have also affected local railway and energy infrastructure, leaving over 73,000 households without electricity.The Russian leaderships intent is clearly to completely isolate the entire area. This goal has already been partially achieved: after declaring a national state of emergency, the Ukrainian authorities ordered the suspension of traffic in both directions on the Maiaky Bridge, effectively severing the M-15 Odesa-Reni highway.
This has already effectively isolated the entire area since, as Alla Perdei and I explained from there, the Zatoka pier has also been closed. The interruption of that section of the M-15 and the constant Russian bombing have blocked access to some pre-border checkpoints with Moldova. This is alarming, given that the only viable routes to cities such as Reni and Izmail pass through there. Among the alternative routes, Ukrainian border officials recommend, in fact, the Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia customs crossings for Moldova.
Anyone who has crossed the Maiaky Bridge to reach the Palanca checkpoint knows thatRussian drones are landing just meters from the Moldovan border.
To be clear, crossing that stretch of the M-15 requires a customs check because youre essentially entering Moldovan territory. The accuracy of Russian strikes, therefore, depends largely on information from drones and spy balloons monitoring the entire area from the self-proclaimed Pridnestrovie.
A week ago, I concluded my article by noting ample evidence that Moscow was strengthening its military presence in that area by reactivating Soviet-era weapons, launching drone production and training centers for their operators, and relocating its special services agents there.
It took very little time to be confirmed.
