一天顺皇又来这座行宫烧汉窑了；这次是大禹陪她来的。尘香和尘凡陪着大禹和顺皇再一次走亲戚。大禹和这哥俩都不喜欢走在那些被汉子们簇拥着的顺皇身边。
又一次走到了那个名为断桥的桥边房子。一位汉推开门对里面喊：“女人来了！” 里面有人答应着：“女娲来了！” 顺皇进到屋子里了。
One day, Emperor Shun came to this Migration Palace to burn the Han Kiln again. This time, Big Yu accompanied her. Dust-scent and Dust-mortal accompanied Big Yu and Emperor Shun on another round of visiting relatives. Neither Big Yu nor the two brothers liked walking beside Emperor Shun, who was always surrounded by her Hans (adult men).
Once more, they arrived at the house by the bridge called Broken Bridge. A Han man pushed open the door and called inside: “Woman is here!” Someone inside answered: “Nüwa has arrived!” Emperor entered the room.
大禹和这哥俩不想进去了，坐在了路边唠嗑，等着他们出来。忽然一个汉子过来招呼他们仨说： “魃！女人让你们进去！人家要看女魃！” 大禹惊惶地拉着他们俩跑进了屋子！
随后尘香和尘凡领着大禹参观他们的工地。看后，大禹开始给他们俩讲如何建立建筑公司，还列出了一份详细的清单，比如所推荐的公司经理的名字，设计公司，预算公司，和几个施工队。并对这哥俩说：“要做一项工程，你得先花两千两银子，然后依照施工进度表和预算逐步实施！”
Big Yu and the two brothers didn't want to go in. They sat by the roadside chatting, waiting for them to come out. Suddenly, a Han man approached them and said: "Bā (i.e., drought)! Woman wants you to come in! People want to see “Woman Bā (i.e., drought)!" Startled, Yu hurriedly pulled the other two into the house!
Dust-scent and Dust-mortal showed Big Yu around their construction sites. After the visit, Big Yu began to tell them how to set up a construction company and listed a detailed list, such as the name of the recommended company manager, the design company, the budget company, and several construction teams. He told the brothers that to do a project, you must spend two thousand taels of silver first, and then implement it step by step according to the construction schedule and budget!
尘香和尘凡开始数银子，还剩下两千三百两。
这天晚上，这哥俩决定去行宫看看大禹。卫兵不让进，回答： “这里没有叫大禹叔叔的。”
Dust-scent and Dust-mortal began to count the silver, and there were still two thousand three hundred taels left.
That night, the brothers decided to go to the palace to see Uncle Big Yu, but the guards refused to let them in and replied, “No one here calls Uncle Big Yu.”

这时大禹出来了，领着他们俩迅速地走到了院子一端，他自己的房间。进屋后，尘香和尘凡惊呆了：屋子里就只有一张床，别的什么都没有！这哥俩看完四壁看屋顶：没有天棚！
尘凡注意到了大禹的后背在流血。他好奇地捅了一下流血的地方，大禹 “啊”地叫了一声！尘凡闻了闻，认为是人血。
At that moment Big Yu came out and led them quickly to his own room at one end of the courtyard. When they entered the room, Dust-scent and Dust-mortal were stunned: there was only a bed in the room, nothing else! The two brothers looked at the four walls and the roof: there was no canopy!
Dust-mortal noticed blood flowing from Big Yu's back. Curious, he poked the bleeding spot, causing Yu to cry out in pain! Dust-mortal sniffed the blood and concluded it was human blood.
大禹似乎懂得了他俩的意思，说：“这座行宫是我五年前督建的，还没有全部竣工。那时建的时候就有设计缺陷。开间大，隔间多，采光和通风不好。我已经考虑多年了，可以这么改进。大禹就在地上画如何建立通风系统和开天窗。又补充说：“你们俩可别说这是我的主意，否则你妈不会把这项工程交给你俩。”
Big Yu seemed to understand what they meant and said, “I supervised the construction of this palace five years ago, and it is not yet fully completed. There were design flaws when it was built. The openings are large and there are many compartments, so the lighting and ventilation are not good. I have been thinking for years that it could be improved in this way. Big Yu then drew on the ground how to set up the ventilation system and open the skylight. And added, “You two can't say that this was my idea, otherwise your mom wouldn't have given this project to you two.”

很快，卫兵来招呼尘香和尘凡说：“顺皇听说你们俩来了，要见你们俩。”
在去见顺皇的路上，尘香对尘凡说：“一定要把这项工程搞到手。你一见到那个女人，就抱住她不放手！”
Soon, the guards came to greet Dust-scent and Dust-mortal said, “Emperor Shun has heard that you two are here and wants to see you both.”
On the way to see Emperor Shun, Dust-scent said to Dust-mortal: "We must get this project. As soon as you see that woman, hug her and don't let go!"
尘凡很尊敬哥哥，见到顺皇后，就扑到了她的怀里，抱住不放。顺皇惊讶地叨咕：“你们哥俩今天这是怎么了，上次离开没多久，这次就来了。说着她搂着尘凡躺到了床上。尘香也躺到了顺皇的旁边。
无意中，尘香看到了屋顶，他站了起来向上看，在屋子里走了一圈。顺皇说：“别看了，没天棚！”
Dust-mortal respected his brother very much. When he saw Emperor Shun, he threw himself into her arms and hugged her. Emperor Shun muttered in surprise: "What happened to you two brothers today? I left not long ago, and I’m here this time." As she said that, she hugged Dust-mortal and lay on the bed. Dust-scent also lay next to Emperor Shun.
Inadvertently, Dust-scent saw the roof. He stood up and looked up and walked around the room. Emperor Shun said: "Don't look anymore, there is no ceiling!"
尘香惊讶地说：“没天棚！这屋子里怎么还有发霉的味儿！通风不好！” 说着，他又躺回了顺皇的身边。娘儿三个聊了几句后，尘香忽然高兴了，站起来走到了屋地的中央说：“妈！我现在有建筑施工公司了！我给你安个天棚！”
Dust-scent said in surprise: "There is no ceiling! Why is there a musty smell in this room! The ventilation is not good!" As he said that, he lay back next to Emperor Shun. After the mother and sons chatted for a few words, Dust-scent suddenly became happy, stood up and walked to the center of the room and said: "Mom! I have a construction company now! I will install a ceiling for you!"
顺皇高兴地回答：“是啊！你一来这里就开了家建筑施工公司，做了几个工程了？”
尘香回答：“已经完成了两个，还有一个正在进行！”
顺皇好奇地问：“赚了多少钱了？”
尘香羞涩地回答：“赔了三十两银子！”
Emperor Shun replied happily, “Yes! You opened a construction company as soon as you came here, how many projects have you done?”
Dust-scent replied, “Two have been completed, and one is in progress!”
Emperor Shun asked curiously, “How much money have you made?”
Dust-scent shyly replied, “Lost thirty taels of silver!”
顺皇高兴地说：“这么成功！我爸爸，你们的外公玉皇大帝，第一年做金华火腿生意，把一万两本钱赔得一两银子没剩。你真的才赔30两？”
尘香无可奈何地回答：“我撒谎了；我们已经赔了300两银子了！”
Emperor Shun said happily, "Such a success! My father, your grandfather, Turquoise White-king Great Creator, lost all his 10,000 taels of capital in the first year of his Jinhua ham business. Did you only lose 30 taels?"
Dust-scent replied hopelessly, “I lied; we've already lost 300 taels of silver!”
顺皇说：“我知道300两银子也是谎话，这次就算了。如果你敢再对我撒谎，我把你的屁股打得半个月坐不了凳子。” 说着，她抱紧了尘凡的头，嗯嗯地亲了几下。她又说：“承揽皇家的工程，你得先去县政府登记，做资格审查。过一段时间，我把这项工程的招标合同发到县政府。”
Emperor Shun said, "I know that 300 taels of silver is also a lie, so let's forget it this time. If you dare to lie to me again, I'll beat your ass so hard that you can't sit on a stool for half a month." With that, she hugged Dust-mortal's head tightly and mummed and kissed him a few times. She added, "To undertake the Royal's project, you have to go to the county government to register and do a qualification check first. After some time, I will send the bidding contract for this project to the county government."
这时，有汉子进来说：“汉来伺候您了！”
顺皇对尘香和尘凡说：“那你们俩就回家好好准备吧！”
At this time, a Han came in and said: "Han is here to serve you!"
Emperor Shun said to Dust-scent and Dust-mortal: "Then you two go home and prepare well!"

这哥俩被送出行宫后，尘凡说：“哥哥！我才知道，你真是个演戏的天才！”
尘香回答：“我看你一直紧紧地抱着那个女人！”
After these two brothers were sent out of the palace, Dust-scent said, “Brother! I just realized that you are really a genius at acting!”
Dust-scent replied, “I saw you holding that woman tightly all the time!”
尘凡说：“你让我一直抱着她！我讨厌她，怕她看出来，所以我一直没敢抬头！奇怪了，她知道你撒谎后，还高兴了，抱紧了我，亲我的头发！”
尘香说：“她发现我长大了，谈话有策略了，当然高兴。走，咱俩回去找棵树上去看看！”
Dust-mortal said, “You told me to hold her all the time! I hated her and was afraid she'd see it, so I never dared to look up! It's weird, she got happy when she realized you were lying, hugged me tight, even kissed my hair!”
Dust-scent said, “Of course she was happy when she found out I'd grown up and the conversation was strategic. Come on, let's go back and find a tree to check it out!”
这哥俩溜到了行宫的院墙旁边，在树上向院子里面看。行宫里除了大禹的房间都是灯火通明。一些汉子和士兵在排队进入顺皇的寝宫，不断地有人出来，又有人进去。
哥俩看了很长时间，没琢磨出来任何结论。他们回家后，又出来爬上树，继续看。直到午夜，他俩才看见汉子和士兵们陆续回到了各自的房间，熄灭了灯。
这哥俩怎么也没琢磨出来那些人进入顺皇的寝宫去干什么！
The two brothers slipped next to the courtyard wall of the palace and looked inside the courtyard from a tree. The palace was brightly lit except for Uncle Big Yu's room. Some Hans and soldiers were lining up to enter Emperor Shun's bedroom, and people were constantly coming out and going in.
The two brothers watched for a long time without working out any conclusions. They went home, came out and climbed the tree again, and continued to watch. It wasn't until midnight that the two of them saw the Hans and the soldiers return to their rooms one after another and put out their lights.
The two brothers couldn't figure out what those people had gone into Emperor Shun's bedroom to do!

第二天早晨，卫兵来招呼尘香和尘凡为大禹送行。顺皇告诉他们大禹病了，需要送回武汉疗养。他俩看着大禹被两个士兵搀扶着，上了马车。顺皇过去送行，却拉住了马车夫的手，亲密地交谈了很长时间。
The next morning, the guards come to summon Dust-scent and Dust-mortal to see Big Yu off. Emperor Shun told them that Uncle Big Yu was sick and needed to be sent back to Wuhan to recuperate. They watched as Big Yu was assisted by two soldiers and got into a carriage. Emperor Shun goes over to see him off but takes the carriage driver's hand and talks intimately for a long time.
回家的路上，尘凡被气哭了，说：“我看这个黑心的女人是纯心要害死大禹叔叔。咱爸爸牛郎就是这么被她整死的！”
尘香问：“你为什么这么想？”
On the way home, Dust-mortal was enraged and cried, saying, “I think this black-hearted woman is purely trying to kill Uncle Big Yu. This is how our father, Cowboy, was screwed to death by her!”
Dust-scent asked, “Why do you think so?”
尘凡回答：“昨天，咱俩去他屋的时候，他刚被鞭刑过，伤口流出的血都从衣服上渗出来了。我还以为我看错了，就在他的伤口上用手指捅了一下。他疼得 ‘啊’ 一声，伤口又流血了。大禹叔叔的床上是空的，没有被子，天这么冷，所以他被冻感冒了。我对天发誓，这个仇我一定要报！”
Dust-mortal replied, “Yesterday, when we went to his house, he had just been whipped, and the blood from his wounds was oozing out of his clothes. I thought I was mistaken, so I stabbed my finger in his wound. He let out an 'ah' in pain, and the wound bled again. Uncle Big Yu's bed was empty, there was no blanket, and it was so cold, so he caught a cold. I swear to Sky that I will avenge this!”
尘香说：“你可不要胡乱行动！大禹叔叔是圣人，是玉皇大帝给那个女人造的丈夫。目前他不会有生命危险！你答应过我：20岁开始造刀，22岁才开始复仇。”
尘凡说：“我知道，我保证现在不会动手；我不会破坏你的计划的。”
Dust-scent said, “Don't act recklessly! Uncle Big Yu is a sage, the husband made by Turquoise White-King Great Creator for that woman. At present, his life will not be in danger! You promised me: you'll start making sword at 20 years old, and you won't start taking revenge until you're 22.”
Dust Mortal replied, “I know, and I promise I won't do anything now; I won't ruin your plans.”
尘香说：“我按照大禹叔叔说的，去找那个人来当咱们建筑公司的经理，得三天后才能回来。然后由他来负责组织投标和整修行宫的工程。你若有机会，再进行宫看看，数数行宫里面有多少个男人，多少个女人。每天晚上爬到树上数数有多少人进入那个女人的卧室，记录下来。如果我回来了，你不在，我就去替换你。”
Dust-scent said, "I went to find that person to be the manager of our construction company, as Uncle Big Yu said, and will have to come back in three days. Then he will be responsible for organizing the bidding and refurbishing the palace. If you have a chance, go back to the palace and count the number of men and women in the palace. Climb up a tree every night and count how many men enter that woman's bedroom and record it. If I come back and you are not here, I will go and replace you."
尘凡问：“数那个人数有什么用？”
尘香回答：“我们有可能从每晚进入她卧室的人数发现些什么！”
Dust-mortal asked, “What's the point of counting that number of people?”
Dust-scent replied, “We could possibly discover something from the number of people who enter her bedroom each night!”

怎么顺皇打大禹这么狠？这不合常理！《中华法典》中说这是顺皇在做法。一天，她忽然有了这个想法，就派人去把大禹接来了。女婴担心他们俩的关系紧张，怕闹出事故来，就跟了过来。顺皇就说出要激发尘香和尘凡内心的仇恨的做法。他们俩自幼崇拜大禹，如果大禹挨欺负了，这哥俩肯定会有救大禹的愿望，那样他们俩就成为了有用之人。顺皇说完，笑着问大禹：“你看行吗？”
Why did Emperor Shun beat Yu so cruelly? This doesn't make sense! The *Chinese Codex* says this was Emperor Shun performing “Making Law” (i.e., a purposeful doing). One day, she suddenly had this idea and sent someone to bring Yu to her. Heroine, worried about the tension between the two and fearing an accident, came along. Empress Shun then explained her plan to incite hatred in Dust-scent and Dust-mortal's hearts. The two brothers had admired Yu since childhood, and if Yu were bullied, they would surely want to save him, that way, they would both become useful people. After Emperor Shun finished speaking, she smiled and asked Yu, "What do you think?"
大禹也笑了，回答：“我觉着这个想法挺好！”
女婴看他们俩都笑了，就没反对。
大禹说：“海南的记录里有：尘凡是个天生的猎人。要做，就必须是真的，把我的后背打出血。”
Big Yu laughed and replied, "I think this is a great idea!"
Seeing that they were both laughing, Heroine didn't object.
Big Yu said, "The records from Hainan say: Dust-mortal is a born hunter. If you're going to do it, it has to be real—make my back bleed."
前文，当他们看见尘香和尘凡来了，就开始准备。执行鞭刑的将军就开始打大禹。一连打了几鞭子，大禹疼的咬牙挺着，可是他的后背没出血。女婴被气得一把推开了那位将军，夺过了鞭子，啪啪两鞭子打在了同一个地方，鲜血立刻流出来了。
Earlier, when they saw Dust-scent and Dust-mortal arrive, they began preparations. The general who was to carry out the whipping began to beat Big Yu. Several lashes were delivered in succession, and Big Yu gritted his teeth and endured the pain, but his back did not bleed. Heroine was so angry that she pushed the general away, snatched the whip, and struck the same spot twice, and blood immediately flowed out.
大禹坚持不要在伤口上上药，尘凡会嗅出来的。当天夜里，大禹确实脱了衣服，没盖被，第二天早晨，他真的开始发烧了。大禹又让女婴把他打出血了。
结果这一切，就在大禹路过尘凡的瞬间，尘凡全都嗅到了。
Yu insisted that no medicine be applied to the wound, as Dust-mortal would smell it. That night, Yu indeed took off his clothes and went without a blanket, and the next morning, he did indeed develop a fever. Yu then had Heroine beat him until he bled.
As it turned out, all of this happened the instant Yu passed by Dust-mortal, who smelled it all.
14.5 牛郎的遗嘱 Cowboy's Will
尘香回来后，接过尘凡的数据一看，30；70；300，生气地说：“你是不是睡着了，瞎编个数给我！？”
尘凡回答：“如果我睡着了，就告诉你我错过了一段时间，不会编个数据耽误事。我认为这事和咱爹的死因有关系！她真的是女娲吗？”
When Dust-scent came back, he took Dust-mortal's data and looked at it, 30; 70; 300, and said angrily, “Did you fall asleep and make up a number for me!?”
Dust-scent replied, “If I had fallen asleep, I would have told you I missed some time and wouldn't have made up a figure to delay affairs. I think this has something to do with the cause of our father's death! Is she really Nuwa?”
尘香回答：“她是女娲！是咱爹告诉我的！”
尘凡焦急地抱怨说：“咱爹怎么没告诉我呢！咱爹是怎么对你说的？”
Dust-scent replied, "She's Nuwa! It was our father who told me!"
Dust-mortal complained anxiously, "Why didn't our father tell me! What did our father tell you?"
1. 西王母审判牛郎 King Mother of the West Judges Cowboy
尘香回答：“那时你还小，咱爹让我等你长大些再告诉你！咱爹被捕之后，是咱姥姥，西王母，审判的他。当咱姥姥进到法庭，相互介绍身份后，其他的人就退出了法庭。那法庭里就只有他们两个人。咱姥姥说，‘我女儿，小龙女（即夏娃，顺皇），有机会成为我们夏国的大司仪女娲，为此你们必须分开。牛郎！你是尘香和尘凡的父亲。和你一样，我们俩都是已经成为了父母的人。我愿意为我女儿的前途付出任何代价，包括做坏事，请你不要逼我！你有什么愿望，告诉我吧！’”
Dust-scent replied, "You were still young at that time, our father told me to wait until you grow up before telling you! After our father was arrested, it was our grandmother, the King Mother of the West, who tried him. When our grandmother entered the court and introduced themselves to each other, the others left the court. There were only they two in the court. Our grandma said, 'My daughter, Little Dragoness (i.e., Eve, Emperor Shun), has the chance to become the Great Ritual Command of our Xia country, Nuwa, and for this you must separate. Cowboy! You are the father of Dust-scent and Dust Mortal. Like you, we are both already parents. I am willing to pay any price for my daughter's future, including doing bad affairs, please don't force me! 尘香继续说：“咱爹说，‘小龙女一生最大的愿望就是成为夏国的大司仪，女娲。我愿意付出任何代价来帮助，或者不妨碍她实现理想，包括亲手杀死我的两个儿子，然后自杀。请您告诉我应该怎么做！？”
尘凡抗议道：“咱爹要杀了咱俩！？”
尘香大叫：“你给我闭嘴！”
Dust-scent continued: "Our father said, Little Dragoness' greatest wish in life is to become the Great Ritual Commander of Xia, Nuwa. I am willing to pay any price to help, or not hinder her from realizing her ideal, including killing my two sons with my own hands and then committing suicide. Please tell me what to do!"

尘凡哭着抱怨：“咱爹就是这么被小龙女给玩死的，他还这么护着她！你受得了，我受不了！”
尘香回答：“那也得等把事情弄清楚了之后再决定！”
尘凡回答：“这还不够清楚啊！我看你就是喜欢那女人的钱，不想给咱爹报仇了！”
Dust-mortal cried and complained: "This is how Little Dragoness played our father to death, and he still protected her! You can bear it, but I can't!"
Dust-scent replied: "We have to wait until we figure out the whole affair before deciding!"

尘香继续说：“在咱姥姥审判咱爹的法庭上，她说，‘你对小龙女最大的帮助就是服从我的安排。我送你们父子三人去一个地方。在那里你把两个孩子抚养长大，成为受人尊敬的人。这样我女儿就会安心地工作，没有后顾之忧。我会在那里为尘香和尘凡建立一所学校，让他们俩受到最好的教育。虽然你们三人都成了政治犯。但政治犯对他们俩未来生活的影响不是那么大。从工作来说，政治犯不能成为国家公务员，但他们可以从事很多其它的行业，例如法师，猎人，建筑商，等三十多个职业。”
Dust-scent continued: "In the court where our grandmother tried our father, she said, 'The greatest help you can give to Little Dragoness is to obey my arrangements. 2. 牛郎的遗嘱 Cowboy's Will
尘香对尘凡说：“我想说说咱爸对咱俩的期望，或说他给咱俩的遗嘱。”
尘凡惊讶地说：“咱爸给咱俩留遗嘱了？你说吧！”
尘香说：“咱爸让我成为法师，不能从事其它的行业，目的是好好的照顾你。你成为建筑商，多多地赚钱，目的是养活我。咱爸说了，‘法师不赚钱。如果你死了，他也不允许我从事其它行业, 我就得饿死。我已经对他发过誓了。也就是说，你死了，我就得饿死。你听明白没？你给我重复一遍咱爸的遗愿。”
尘凡说：“我听明白了。他让你成为法师，教导我。他让我成为建筑商，养活你。但我不明白他是怎么想出这个办法来让咱哥俩相依为命的？”
Dust-scent said to Dust-mortal, “I want to talk about what our dad expects of us, or the will he gave us.”
Dust-mortal was surprised and said, “Our dad left us a will, go ahead!”
Dust-scent said, “Our dad told me to become a juristic teacher (i.e., a mage, a priest) and not to engage in other professions, to take good care of you. You become a builder and make more money to support me. Our father said, ‘Juristic Teachers don't make money. If Dust-mortal dies, and I will not allow you to engage in any other professions, you will starve to death.’ I have already sworn to him. That means if you die, I'll starve to death. Do you understand? You repeat to me our father's last wish.”
Dust-mortal said, “I understand. He told you to become a juristic teacher and guide me. He told me to become a builder and feed you. But I don't understand how he came up with this way for us to live as mutual dependent together?”
尘香说：“咱爹说，他这辈子有三件最荣幸的事。一是娶了小龙女。二是接受了咱姥姥（西王母）的审判。三是拜龙王（即熬钦）为师。”
尘凡叨咕：“啊！他是和咱龙王爷爷一起研究出来的。”
尘香回答：“是的！是咱龙王爷爷教他如何验证咱姥姥所说的适合咱俩的职业：法师，猎人，和建筑商。”
尘凡问：“那龙王爷爷为什么说你适合做法师？”
Dust-scent said: “Our father said that he had three most honored affairs in his life. One is marrying Little Dragoness. The second is receiving the judgment of our grandma, King Mother of the West. The third is to worship Dragon King (i.e. Aoqin) as his teacher.”
Dust-mortal chattered: “Ah! He studied with our Grandfather Dragon King.”
Dust-scent replied: “Yes! It was our Grandfather Dragon King who taught him how to verify the professions our grandmother said were suitable for both of us: juristic teacher (mage), hunter, and builder.”
Dust-mortal asked: “Then why did Grandpa Dragon King say you were suitable for juristic teacher?”
尘香回答：“咱爸说咱俩都是女娲的后人。我继承了女娲的全部特质。女娲就是大法师。如果我不能成为大法师，全是因为我不学习。咱爸给我讲了他根据龙王爷爷提供的方法对我的全部观察结果。今天是我告诉你咱爸的遗嘱，只说你。”
Dust-scent replied, “Our father said that we are both descendants of Nuwa. I have inherited all Nuwa's traits. Nuwa is a Great Juristic Teacher. 3. 猎人Hunter
尘凡回答：“好吧！他们为什么说我适合成为建筑商？”
尘香说：“咱姥姥说你是猎人或建筑师。你能当猎人，就能成为建筑商；这两个行业所需的特质差不多。咱爸死前一直带着咱俩从事施工工作，直到他站不起来了。他的目的就是让咱俩学门手艺。前几天，当你说了因为大禹叔叔的床上没被子，他被冻着了。我想了好长时间才想起来他的床上没被子。你在回忆思维中的追踪能力比我好太多了。再例如，大禹叔叔在咱俩身边过，你就说他在发烧，伤口没上药，还在流血。这些我都闻不出来，你长了一个猎人的鼻子。”
Dust-mortal replied, “Okay! Why did they say I am fit to be a builder?”
Dust-scent says, “Our grandma said you were a hunter or a builder. If you can be a hunter, you can be a builder; both trades require about the similar traits. Our father took us both into construction work before he died until he couldn't stand up anymore. His intention was for us to learn a trade. Three days ago, when you said Uncle Yu was freezing because there was no blanket on his bed, I thought about it for a long time. I thought for a long time before I remembered that there was no blanket on his bed. You're much better at tracking down memories than I am. Another example, when Uncle Yu passed by us, you said he was running a fever, his wounds weren't medicated, and he was still bleeding. I couldn't smell any of these; you've grown a hunter's nose.”
尘凡说：“我想起来了，当我看见大禹叔叔的背上在流血，我就没想那是他在流血。我开始时在辨别是猪血还是鸡血。我发现那些都不是，才意识到那是他在流血。还有一件事，我一直没敢跟你说，怕你听了害怕！”
尘香说：“你说吧！哥哥我自己认为有点儿胆量。”
Dust-mortal said, “I remember, when I saw Uncle Yu's back bleeding, I didn't think it was him bleeding. I started out identifying whether it was pig's blood or chicken's blood. It was only when I realized it was neither that I realized it was his blood. There's one more thing I haven't dared to tell you for fear that you'd be scared to hear it!”
Dust-scent said, “Go ahead! Brother, I consider myself a little bold.”
尘凡说：“那个女人和那些汉猪们的影像在我的记忆里都不存在；我在记忆里找不到仇人的影子。你们说我是猎人，我才知道，我可真是个狠人。我杀他们的时候不会手软，因为我根本就不认识他们。”
尘香说：“那天，你也向那个女人叫妈了！”
尘凡回答：“我不认识她，我是看你向她叫妈之后，才知道她是咱妈的。”
Dust-mortal said, “The images of that woman and those Han pigs are absent from my memory; I can find no shadow of my enemies in it. You call me a hunter, and I realize that I can be a real brutal guy. I will not be soft when I kill them, for I do not know them at all.”
Dust-scent said, “That day, you called out to that woman for mom too!”
Dust-mortal replied, “I don't know her, I only realized that she was our mother after watching you call out to her as mom.”
4. 尘凡拜师 Dust-mortal Bows to Teacher
尘香说：“我去找大禹叔叔推荐的XXX。他已经退休了。开始时他不同意来当咱们建筑公司的经理。我给他看了大禹叔叔给咱写的清单后，他就同意了。他说他就是这栋行宫的前一个承包商。大禹叔叔称这座行宫为 ‘旧木盖新房’（亦作养汉，汉窑，是女娲创造汉族的工程）。原因是当大禹叔叔去买这座行宫的木材时，他不相信木材还有旧的，就花半价买了这批存放了30到60年的旧木材。结果省下来的钱被那女人收回去了。这座行宫就是用那批旧木头盖的。”
Dust-scent said, "I went to see XXX who was recommended by Uncle Yu. He has retired. At first, he did not agree to be the manager of our construction company. After I showed him the list that Uncle Yu wrote for us, he agreed. He said that he was the previous contractor of this palace. Uncle Yu called this palace 'Building a New House with Old Wood' (note, it is also known as Han Farming and Han kiln, which is the project of Nuwa to create Han people.). The reason is that when Uncle Yu went to buy the wood for this palace, he did not believe that there is old wood. So, he bought this batch of old wood that had been stored for 30 to 60 years at half price. As a result, the money saved was taken back by that woman. This palace was built with that batch of old wood."
尘香继续说：“我已经和他商量好了。你当他的徒弟，跟他学建筑施工。我负责搞外交，对付政府官员。你可得认真学，我还要到县里去做官，去给咱俩弄两套假身份。人多的地方赚钱，人少的地方花钱。当这个工程竣工后，我俩离开这个穷山沟子，去城里工作。”
Dust-scent continued, "I have already discussed it with him. You will be his apprentice and learn construction from him. I will be responsible for diplomacy and dealing with government officials. You must study hard. I will also go to the county to be an official and get two sets of fake identities for us. We can make money in places with many people and spend money in places with few people. When this project is completed, we will leave this poor mountain valley and go to the city to work."
尘凡问：“弄两套假身份证明有那么难吗！你还要专门为这事去当官？”
尘香说：“那女人（即顺皇）给咱们的身份证都是假的，这里面肯定有秘密。造个假身份证也不容易！我这就去树上数进入她卧室的人数。你在想想咱爹的遗嘱，明天你和我一起去爹的灵位前发誓！”
Dust-mortal asked, "Is it so difficult to get two sets of fake identity documents? Do you have to be an official specifically for this?"
Dust-scent said, "The ID cards that woman (Emperor Shun) gave us are all fake. There must be a secret. It's not easy to make a fake ID card! I will go to the tree and count the number of people who enter her bedroom. Think about our father's will. Tomorrow you and I will go to our father's spirit tablet and swear an oath together!"
随后大禹推荐的建筑公司经理来了。尘香和尘凡让新经理主持家务，聘请厨师和佣人，建立伙食标准。他们俩就服从新经理的指挥，天天忙，但一切顺利。
Then the construction company manager recommended by Big Yu came. Dust-scent and Dust-mortal asked the new manager to take charge of the housework, hire chefs and servants, and establish food standards. The two of them obeyed the new manager's command and were busy every day, but everything went smoothly.
14.6 行宫 Migration Palace
弟弟尘凡，又名卢堂右，在这时约14岁。大禹推荐的建筑公司经理来了之后，他就成为了这家公司的会计，兼职出纳员和材料保管员。他每天跟着公司经理学习建筑学和建筑施工。哥哥尘香，又名卢堂左，这时约17岁。他负责办理公司的对外业务和采购工作。这时他每天都按照公司经理的吩咐办理建筑公司资格认证。偶尔地，他们俩轮流到舜禹行宫院外的树上数进入顺皇（又名夏娃，小龙女，女，女娲，顺皇）寝宫的人数。
The younger brother, Dust-mortal, also known as Hall-Right Lu, was about 14 years old at this time. Eve, Little Dragoness, Woman, Nuwa, White-King Shun) in the trees outside the courtyard of Migration Palace of Shun and Yu.
一天，他们发现记录的数据又出现了大的数字300，还看见一队重甲铁骑兵从行宫外直接跑进了行宫东面的房间。他俩就开始连续观察了。数据显示：30；70；300；50；40；60；80；120；200；300；（400）；（500）；（600）；（700）。
One day, they found that the recorded data had a large number of 300 and saw a group of heavily armored cavalrymen running directly from outside the palace into the room on the east side of the palace. They began to observe continuously. The data showed: 30; 70; 300; 50; 40; 60; 80; 120; 200; 300; (400); (500); (600); (700).
有700人进入顺皇寝宫的第二天早晨，士兵来招呼尘香和尘凡说，顺皇要离开了。这哥俩看着顺皇上马车，与平时一样，精神抖擞。他们俩心想：这怎么可能啊！这几天，她每天都工作到后半夜两点钟，怎么还这么精神？
The morning after 700 people entered Emperor Shun's chambers, soldiers came to summon Dust-scent and Dust-mortal saying that Emperor Shun is leaving. These two brothers watched Emperor Shun get into her carriage, as refreshed as usual. The two of them thought to themselves, “How is this possible! In the past a few days, she had worked until two o'clock in the middle of the night every day, how could she still be so energetic?
2 汉窑 Han Kiln
尘凡莫名其妙地叨咕：“白数了这么多天，什么也没查出来！你查出来她在寝室干什么了吗？”
尘香回答：“我查出来很多信息，但是我琢磨不明白。怕影响你学习，我就没跟你说。现在我来告诉你。他们说顺皇来这里是为了烧窑，说她工作勤奋，每天都烧到半夜。我已经调查了两遍了，咱这地区一个陶窑也没有。也就是说，她每天晚上在她的寝室里烧窑。这么长的时间了，我也没看见她干过什么别的事。还有，他们说咱住的这个汉窑总共有300个 ‘汉殃子’（即汉，汉神，汉人的种苗）。”
Dust-mortal inexplicably chattered, “After counting all these days for nothing, I haven't found out anything! Did you find out what she was doing in her bedroom?”
Dust-scent replied, “I found out a lot of information, but I couldn't figure it out. For fear of affecting your studies, I didn't tell you. Now I'll tell you. They said that Emperor Shun came here to burn the kiln (as in Figure 3.6.4-38) and that she worked hard and burned until midnight every day. I have investigated this twice, and there is not a single pottery kiln in our area. In other words, she fired the kiln every night in her bedroom. I haven't seen her doing anything else for such a long time. Also, they say that this Han kiln where we live has a total of 300 'Han Misfortune Boys' (i.e.., Han, Han Gods, Han Seedlings).”
尘凡问：“那昨晚上另外那400人是什么人？”
尘香回答：“那400人是从别的汉窑来的。他们说，在武汉市的周围有20多个这样的汉窑。每个窑里有约200至300个汉。”
尘凡叨咕：“也就是说，这个女人跟一般人不一样！她烧窑的事肯定与咱爸爸（牛郎）的死因有关系。那这些 ‘汉殃子’ 是从哪里来的？”
Dust-mortal asked, “Then what were those other 400 people last night?”
Dust-scent replied, “Those 400 people came from other Han Kilns. They said that there are more than 20 such Han Kilns around the city of Wuhan. There is about 200 to 300 Han in each kiln.”
Dust-mortal chattered, “That means this woman is different from the average person! Her burning of the kiln must have something to do with the death of our father (Cowboy). Then where did these 'Han Misfortune Boys' come from?”
尘香回答：“这些汉是从全国各地选出来的。到这里之后，他们就跟着那女人走。走到一个被称作断桥的地方。桥头有个像是商店的房子，有人喊，‘女人来了！’ 商店里就有人回答，‘女娲来了！’ 女人进去说几句话后，带领人们走到断桥的另一端。这样走过断桥的人就都变成汉人了。”
尘凡惊讶地回答：“哎呀！咱俩都跟着那女人走过断桥六七次了。这么说，咱俩现在也已经是汉人了！”
Dust-scent replied, “These Han were chosen from all over the country. After arriving here, they followed the woman. They walked to a place known as the Broken Bridge (Figure 36, aka. Sky Bridge, Non-Alternative Bridge, and Philosopher-Stone Bridge). At the end of the bridge there was a house that looked like a store, and someone shouted, 'Woman is coming!' Someone in the store then replies, 'Nuwa is here!' The woman goes in and says a few words and then leads the people to the other end of the broken bridge. In this way everyone who walks across the broken bridge becomes a Han Chinese.”
Dust-mortal replied in surprise, “Oops! We have followed that woman across the Broken Bridge six or seven times. In that case, we are now Han Chinese too!”
尘香调侃地说：“不管你愿不愿意听，你以后别再说 ‘汉猪’ 了，整地我现在一听见 ‘杀猪刀’就害怕！”
尘凡气愤地叨咕：“那女人事先也没跟咱俩商量啊！我一点感觉都没有，不是汉人！”
尘香回答：“我有感觉，每晚都站在树杈上数数，被那女人烧糊涂了！什么也没琢磨出来！不过，我有了一个新计划！”
Dust-scent said flirtatiously, “Whether you want to hear it or not, don't say ‘Han Pig’ anymore, I'm scared when I hear ‘pig-killing knife’ now!”
Dust-mortal angrily muttered, “That woman didn't discuss it with us beforehand! I don't have any feelings at all, not being a Han!”
Dust-scent replied, “I had feelings, I stood on the branches of a tree every night and counted and was burned out by that woman! Didn't figure anything out! But I have a new plan!”
3. 行宫的结构 Structure of the Migration Palace
尘香继续说：“我在向建筑设计院询问他们是否有通风系统的设计经验时，他们给我看了十个他们做过的设计。我很快就发现了这座行宫的一份原设计草图。这栋房子的开间很大。北边有一个贯通东西的走廊。女王卧室的西侧是待客室。待客室的西面是四个洗浴室。这四个洗浴室就位于雷峰塔的底座。雷峰塔是个很高的旱烟囱。烟囱，生火不生火都会向上抽风，就会抽走浴室，厨房，和卧室里的潮气。在宫殿的后院中央有两个进气口。进气通道在进入宫殿后，有一个斜着向上的抗风通道直通雷峰塔。如果我们从行宫北面的山里凿一个洞到进气通道，就可以顺着进气通道爬进雷峰塔。然后，从雷峰塔的排气通道进入到待客室和顺皇卧室天棚上面的空间。这样我们就可以从排气孔看白娘子和许仙唱戏了！”
Dust-scent continued, “When I asked the architectural institute if they had any experience in designing ventilation systems, they showed me ten designs they had done. I quickly found one of the original design sketches for this Migration Palace. The Palace had a large opening. There is a corridor running east and west on the north side. To the west of the Queen's bedroom is the waiting room. To the west of the waiting room were four bathrooms. These four bathrooms are located at the base of the Leifeng Pagoda. Leifeng Pagoda is a very tall dry chimney. The chimney, with or without fire, draws wind upward, which draws out moisture from the bathrooms, kitchen, and bedrooms. There are two air intakes in the center of the backyard of palace. The air intake channels have a diagonal upward wind-resistant passage leading straight to the Leifeng Pagoda after entering the palace. If we cut a hole from the mountain to the north of the palace to the air intake passage, we can climb into the Leifeng Pagoda along the air intake passage. Then, from the exhaust passage of the Leifeng Pagoda, we can enter the space above the canopies of waiting room and Emperor Shun's bedroom. That way we can watch the “White Snake Wife” and “Permissions-for Gods” singing through the exhaust passage!”
尘凡气愤地说：“那么多人买票进去看《白蛇传》！为什么咱俩要挖洞才能进去？”
尘香气愤地回答：“我就是这么说！即便有人卖这票，咱俩也不能买票进去！”
尘凡叨咕：“挖三百米长的山洞，再穿透防盗墙，我们俩得干四个月！没有别的办法了吗？”
尘香回答：“如果我们走天窗被发现了，就被射死了。挖地道就得这么挖！”
尘凡回答：“我同意！”
Dust-mortal said angrily: "So many people bought tickets to watch the Legend of the White Snake! Why do we have to dig a hole to get in?"
Dust-scent replied angrily: "That's what I said! Even if someone sells the ticket, we can't buy the ticket to get in!"
Dust-mortal muttered: "It will take us four months to dig a 300-meter-long cave and penetrate the anti-theft wall! Is there no other way?"
Dust-scent replied: "If we go through the skylight and get caught, we will be shot to death. This is how you dig a tunnel!"
Dust-mortal replied: "I agree!"
4. 尘香中标了Dust-scent Has Been Awarded the Contract
顺皇离开后不久，尘香就接到了县里发来的舜禹行宫改造工程投标邀请。公司经理就根据发下来的招标文件写出了预算项目清单，交给尘香和尘凡看。这哥俩看不懂，就同意了。尘香就把预算项目的清单交给了做预算的公司。公司经理看过预算公司做的预算后，什么也没说，就签字了。
Shortly after Emperor Shun left, Dust-scent received an invitation from the county to bid for the renovation of the Shun Yu Migration Palace. The company manager wrote out a list of budget items based on the bidding documents and gave it to Dust-scent and Dust-mortal to read. The two brothers couldn't understand it, so they agreed. Dust-scent gave the list of budget items to the company that made the budget. After the company manager looked at the budget made by the budget company, he signed it without saying anything.
在开标的前一天晚上，公司经理拿出了一份文档，说那是大禹被捕前留给他的，是以前舜禹行宫竣工验收的备用档案，交代他俩明天带着这文件去参加开标会。这哥俩打开一看，乐了，发现里面有一份由大禹和这位公司经理做的地质勘查报告。报告中大禹在这块地上均匀分布式地挖过40个深坑。尘凡对哥哥说： “我看这份文件对咱俩挖洞有用，明天开标用不着。但我觉得还是把它备份下来，以免明天这些文件都被没收了。”
尘香回答：“那我把雷峰塔地基的施工验收报告抄下来吧！”
The night before the bid opening, the company manager took out a document and said that it was left to him by Big Yu before he was arrested. It was a backup file for the completion acceptance of the Shun Yu Migration Palace. He told them to bring this document to the bid opening meeting tomorrow. The two brothers opened it and were delighted to find a geological survey report made by Big Yu and the company manager. The report showed that Big Yu had dug 40 deep pits evenly distributed on the land. Dust-mortal said to his brother: "I think this document is useful for us to dig holes, it is not needed for the bid opening tomorrow. But I think it is better to back it up in case all these documents are confiscated tomorrow."
Dust-scent replied: "Then I will copy down the construction acceptance report of the Leifeng Pagoda foundation!"
第二天开标会上，宣布报价时，尘香的报价低，排在了第三位。招标方要求尘凡补充说明几项工程没做预算的原因。尘香就把他公司经理提供的材料交给招标商。
一段时间后，县政府通知尘香，他的公司中标了。
At the bid opening meeting the next day, when the bids were announced, Dust-scent's bid was low and ranked third. The tenderer asked Dust-mortal to explain why several projects were not budgeted. Dust-scent handed the materials provided by his company manager to the tenderer.
After a while, the county government notified Dust-scent that his company had won the bid.
