As the film goes on, the audience's emotion may develop like the facial evolving of the pianist Cosme, from dazedly unbelievable, highly amused, somewhat puzzled, and to totally incapacitated. They may laugh at Florence's terrible singing for a large part of the film, but in the end, more likely than not, the audience will be thoroughly owned by her consistent passion for music, completely overwhelmed by her never-retreating high spirit, and fully carried away by her final reshaped confidence: "People may say I couldn't sing, but no one can say I didn't sing."
It's a pretty decent way to end the summer when the audience walk out the theater inspired and spiritually prepared for a long winter to come.
