(Free Verse)
The Goodbye
As you leave,
your footprint softer than the summer's wind.
Your voice echoes as you whisper the words of farewell.
The words I don't want to hear.
Because leaving is a form of abandonment.
Leaving is like saying "good riddance"
I want to forget it all.
The days we shared at the beach,
frolicking under the Sun.
The nights we shared under a cloak of stars.
The laughter, the memories.
I can feel tears at the edge of my vision.
I let them gather and stay there,
blurring your retreating form.
If I didn't know you were leaving.
I could almost mistake which way you're going.
I could mistake your retreating form
for your form coming back to me.
Almost...
but not quite.
