For many couples, a day-of wedding coordinator is a ‘nice-to-have’ and only gets the ‘yes’ vote if there’s leftover budget. Call us biased, but we think a planner should be on the ‘must-have’ list. Here are five reasons why day-of coordination should be considered an essential service:
1. Your friends and family won’t have to work your wedding
What’s that? You’ve got Aunt Sally slotted in to set up table decor and your co-worker is on the list to man the guestbook table? That’s a nice thought, and perhaps your family and friends are conscientious and willing to help, but from our experience, enlisting the help of ‘volunteers’ is never a good idea, and half the time they end up AWOL at the most pivotal of moments. The bottom line is your friends and family are there to celebrate you and they deserve to be able to do just that. Hiring a day-of coordinator will ensure that all of your to-dos are covered, allowing your guests to focus on your I-dos instead.

2. You’ll actually get to eat
Eating is kind of important, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on on what will likely be an amazing meal at your own event. Rather than having to be interrupted by questions from the venue manager, DJ or MC (believe us, there will likely be a few), allow your planner to be the trouble-shooter, always one step ahead in figuring out what’s next on the itinerary.
3. Your decor will rock
Whether you’ve hired a decorator or you’ve taken a more hands-on approach and simply need your decor to be styled on the day, having a planner on-site will ensure that your decor vision is brought to life just the way you had envisioned it. A lot of planners will also offer decor styling services, which become much more economical if you’re hiring the planner to be there anyways. If you’re reading this and currently have volunteers slotted in to handle your decor, scroll back up to #1.
4. You won’t miss any milestones
Until you work with a planner, you won’t realize the beauty that is a wedding day timeline in 10-minute increments. What may seem a little over-the-top at first will become something you’re so thankful for after the fact. And the best part is you don’t even have to look at it once on the day! A detailed timeline will allow your planner to make sure you don’t miss any of those amazing moments you’ve been dreaming of for so long.
5. Everything will run more smoothly
From timeline development and vendor confirmations leading up to the wedding, to decor setup, vendor communication and overall management of every detail and arising question on the day, having a planner as part of your team will simply ensure that everything runs more smoothly. The less hiccups on the day, the better the experience will be for you and your guests.
