The Parking Garage

I am not going to talk about a parking garage for cars. I am going to talk abouta parking garage for bicycles. There were many bike parking garages around neighborhoods in 70s and 80s. Unexceptionally, my high school had one. How big was my high school’s bicycle parking garage? Do not look at any townhouse’s garage. Everyone knows a townhome is small even with a two-car garage. I suggest you image the size of four to five townhouses glued together and two levels removed. That is it. The bike garage in my high school was as big as it or as small as it. It had windows without glass. No heater either.

In the year of 1996/97, there was a strange thing happened in my high school. The high school principle made a fierce announcement that two students, a boy and a girl, were dismissed from the school because they stayed at the school bicycle parking garage overnight. You might think what a big deal about it. It was a big deal in 1980’s. It was a serious criminal that two unmarried people sleep together at that time. It was socially unacceptable two young teens stayed together overnight, no matter where and how. That was 80’s! I have no time to discuss the fairness for these two struggling students. I want to know how they could stay at a bike garage for a whole night. By the way, it was winter time. The weather was as cold as the New York City.

What did they do during the night? There were no beds, no chairs, and no tables, nothing except bikes. Stood in the middle of packed bikes for a whole night and looked at each other? Touched each? It was quite boring. If you strip yourself, take time and take off your clothes one by one; it might kill a few hours. But very soon, I would be bored. In order to prolong the process, we could play poker games. I win, you take off one piece; you win, I would take off all.

Another possibility is that they used bike or bikes to do exercise. The old fashion bikes had stands which could hold bikes firmly. You have no problem to pick one and start to exercise, just like bike equipment s in gyms. When you are riding an exercise bike, you might think this way. Look at the mirror, how fit I am. My breasts are not as small as people think. The cleavage is deep and it is so deep that it can bury someone’s head and make him suffocated. I do not think they really like sports. They wanted have fun time together.

But why the school bike garage? Could not they find a nearby grass field and lay on the ground or on each other. Oh, I remember there were no grass fields at all around my high school or nearby neighborhoods. I saw lots of grass fields only after I came to this country. When I studied at LSU, once I tried to persuade my x-girl friend to come with me to the campus grass field and watch stars and sky with me in midnight; she said she had her period.

But why the school bike garage? Could not they find a classroom to stay? There were plenty of chairs and tables in any classroom. If you were creative, chairs and tables can be arranged into castles, fortresses, bedrooms, kitchens, etc. Classrooms were locked during night but it was better to be locked in not locked out in such a chilly winter night.
