Blue eyes, warm smiles, a caring heart and a big build of 110kilo/193cm --- a sketch of my Aussie boyfriend. Never ever thought I would fall for a foreign boy, as a typical Chinese girl, first time when I saw him smiling, I was smitten.
And never have had such urge and enthusiasm to improve my English, coz I want to express more of myself to him. He says he can understand me very well, but my point is he understands what I convey, but there is still a lot more unconveyed due to the language barrier. Was told by someone that no perfect English required to maintain a cross-cultural relationship, kisses are all called for. And I find myself totally disagree, since the plain fact is human being needs to communicate to consolidate the affection that builds on first impression and physical attraction.
Another thing drawing my attention is people's prying eyes. Suddenly we find both of us get our colleagues attentions. Being half of my boyfriends weight and a height hardly reaching his chin, I have to confronted all sorts of nosy questions, which even go as far as "Does he eat a lot? Need a lot feeding?"
He is enthused in learning Chinese, although his enthusiasm is quite measurable.Once he learns one or two words, he settles in them and feels ever so content with himself. When I am trying to push him into some more, he perfunctorily follows several times and retreats to his safety of a cup of coffee, promising to keep learning. Having been going out for five months, his linguistic skills in Mandarin confine in introducion: NI HAO, conclusion: BAI BAI(which is almost identical to English), and expressing gratitude: XIE XIE. One good thing, at least, is that he's never tired of convincing me that he is ever willing to learn, and he even bought him a set of tapes and a book going along with them to show his readiness. Although all their practical function now is sitting under a forgotten desk and collecting dust.
