发现中国人最善良，最包容了，比如说，永远不吝最美好的词汇译给一些外来的名字。你看，英国---英明英武之国；美国---美丽美好之国；再看看，可口可乐，宝马，奔驰。。。而这次，对于第一支闯入中国大陆的英国摇滚乐队Wham!，也毫不吝啬，给了个信达雅的中文名字叫威猛。
那时候，大陆的音乐之门，对外刚刚撬开了一道门缝，只有幸运和勇敢的人才能率先进来。乔治·迈克尔和安德鲁·维治利就是其中两个最帅最勇敢的幸运之星。
现在看来，这俩个帅哥儿应该是那个年代真正红遍全球的国际巨星，因为只有他们做到了红遍中国！
那时侯，中国的当红女歌星是谁呢？对，是成方圆。这位才女与威猛乐队合作，用中文翻唱了一集威猛的作品。其中，印象比较深刻的是那首《HeartBeat》，直到今天，副歌部分的旋律仍在耳边：
原唱唱到：

Oh you hurt me, desert me in my darkest hour…….
而成方圆唱到：
可惜，可惜，可惜现实难如我意
哦，我知道，我不能，不能爱你。。。。。。
一贯以含蓄见长的中文，这次，居然填了如此不含蓄的歌词！可见，当时人们内心是有股迫不及待的情绪正在蠢蠢欲动的。只是，成方圆还没有可能将这种情绪爆发出来。事实上，她的重新演绎柔化了威猛原作品的曲风，将摇滚乐变成了通俗歌曲。
然而，另外一些人，一些当时的无名之辈，他们的心却悄然地被这种名叫摇滚的音乐点燃。可以不夸张地说，正是威猛乐队的到来，催生了中国的摇滚乐。因为在威猛乐队的歌迷中，就有后来一大批中国的摇滚先锋，比如窦唯。。。
其实，不光是大陆，威猛乐队给香港乐坛带来的冲击也是巨大的。当时，以许冠杰为代表的粤语流行歌曲虽已开创出一片新天地，但仍然是处于哈日阶段，即大多还在翻唱日本的流行歌曲。许冠杰的巅峰作品《日本娃娃》，描述了当时香港最时髦的年轻人的样子，而在诸多时髦中，能“飞身上台唱Careless Whispers”，又是时髦中的时髦！可见，威猛乐队当时在香港之风靡。。。
三十年过去了，当年的无数时髦早已成为鸡毛，当年的威猛估计也已经微软。不过，内心深处总留着那么一个角落：在那里，总有一道风景叫当年的摇滚老炮儿；在那里，总有一种情怀叫今天哥高兴也愤怒；在那里，总有一种柔软叫Don’t Break My Heart；在那里，总有一种呐喊叫Careless Whispers。。。
