@elfie,绝大多数的人rather kill someone than being killed 。这是生物的本能。我只能说 No one is forced to buy a gun 这句话不符合事实。

No one is forced to buy a gun. For instance, I would never want one.
I'm afraid I'd be killed by my own weapon if I'd own one:
What if my kids get access to weapons in my home?
What if my gun is stolen from my vehicle?
What if someone intercepts the weapon from my hand?
Could I ever shoot at anyone actively? Never. I'd rather be killed than kill anyone. Killing someone is against my consience.
So the case of me owning a gun would be not only futile but dangerous.
You love weapons because it makes you feel more in control. But to me, it makes me feel even less in control. It adds anxiety.

枪支文化是美国特有文化,因此应该熟悉,最低也不至于被人家一支假枪吓唬住。可以去各种枪店射击靶场租用不同枪支试试,看哪种品牌或者类型自己更喜欢。
无论如何在拥有枪支后要花钱上自己州枪支法的法律课,这笔钱是需要花的,几百左右,课程一般两整天时间。从统计来看,97%的使用枪支自卫的人会因为犯法进监狱,成功自卫的人很少。
FBI在大概十年前公布了本世纪初以来的针对入室抢劫的开枪自卫数据,两千多个案子中只有两起成功自卫(事后你进监狱不算成功)。
