再談Edison--在Edison市的Edison紀念塔

景點名稱﹕Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower and Menlo Park Museum

景點簡介﹕美國人真是太敬愛Edison了﹐都把他工作過的城市命名為Edison了﹗(以前好像屬于Raritan Twp.) 而且又在他91歲生日的時候(2月11日﹐1938年)在他原來實驗室的舊址建了一座塔來紀念他 。這就是Edison Memorial Tower and Menlo Park Museum. 它是世界上第一個研究發展中心 。 在這裡﹐Edison同學得到了400多項專利﹗包括電燈泡﹐留聲機及電軌等﹐並且也改造了無線通訊﹐炭鈕發報機(carbon button transmitter). 還有著名的愛迪生效應 。 很多Edison 一生中十分重要的發明創造都來自于Menlo Park Lab﹗

地址﹕37 Christie Street﹐Edison﹐NJ

建議去法﹕New York / Upper State NJ: Go through Holland Tunnel. Then HOLLAND TUNNEL becomes 14TH ST, 14TH ST becomes US-1&9 S / US-9 S / US-1 S. Take the I-78 WEST LOCAL exit toward GARDEN STATE PARKWAY / AIRPORT, next merge onto I-78 W. Take the GARDEN STATE PARKWAY exit- EXIT 52, and shortly take the PARKWAY SOUTH exit. Merge onto GARDEN STATE PKWY S (Portions toll), go about 10 miles, then take the RT-27 exit- EXIT 131- toward ISELIN / RAHWAY / METUCHEN. Take the ramp toward EDISON / METUCHEN & stay STRAIGHT to go onto NJ-27 / LINCOLN HWY. Turn RIGHT onto CHRISTIE ST, and look for No. 37. (It should be close to Rt. 27, plus you will see a huge tower)

Trenton / Philadelphia: Go onto I-195 E via the ramp on the LEFT toward SHORE PTS, then take the N. J. TURNPIKE exit- EXIT 6. Merge onto NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE N via the exit on the LEFT toward NEWARK / NEW YORK (Portions toll). Take the GARDEN STATE PARKWAY exit- EXIT 11- toward WOODBRIDGE, and merge onto GARDEN STATE PKWY N (Portions toll). Take the RT-27 exit- EXIT 131- toward ISELIN / RAHWAY / METUCHEN, take the ramp toward EDISON / METUCHEN. And turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto NJ-27 / LINCOLN HWY, finally, turn RIGHT onto CHRISTIE ST. (It should be close to Rt. 27, plus you will see a huge tower)

火車﹕從New York或Trenton﹕乘坐NJ Transit的Northeast Corridor Line至Metro Park站﹐然後找到Rt.27(也叫Middlesex Ave.)---(從紐約過來﹐Rt.27就在車站邊﹐ 從Trenton過來--走下車站然後穿過不遠處的鐵路橋便是Rt. 27 ) 然後沿著27號路向西南方(Trenton的方向)走不到5分鐘﹐便可看見Christie St. (小路)。 走上Christie St. 不到5分鐘便可看見Edison Tower.

開放時間﹕Tuesday - Saturday : 10.00am - 4.00pm , Monday, Sunday - Closed (節假日時間待定)筆者補充﹕附近還有一個小樹林﹐入口處的一條長椅據說是Edison常坐並思考的地方﹗(不知現在還有沒有)
