If MSG knows anything about marketing they’d know that letting go of Linsanity equates letting go of good TV ratings and all the profit that goes with it. As someone who had never watched a single ball game in her 34 years of life before this February, I was moved and excited by Lin’s story. I have since gone as far as forking out £120 on an NBA League pass so I can watch every single Knicks game from the UK. This is a rather extraordinary development for someone who never cared about sports. And the sole reason for that is Jeremy Lin. There are probably thousands if not millions of people out there like me who tune in really just to watch him.

The impact Jeremy Lin has on basketball is something stats and scores cannot quantify. Winning or losing you simply can’t keep your eyes off him – because you root for him. He highlights how human quality and good character can draw people to you. He’s a hero in my eyes not simply because he wins games and breaks records, he’s a hero because of his work ethic and how he carries himself amongst the media frenzy that built him up and now ready to tear him down. But you know he’s not being consumed by it, and that’s beyond inspiring. It’s also easy to forget that he’s only 23.

If Lin moves on to another team I’ll simply go and support that team. And if god forbid he stops playing or get benched by idiot coaches I’ll most definitely stop watching basketball altogether, let alone spending money on it. It’s really that simple
