Bonus Ending
At this very moment Mei felt like the entire world along with all questions that she wanted to ask Jesse did not seem to matter anymore. She smiled at him; her tears brought a slight taste of saltiness onto her lips. She reached out her hand, and carefully put it into Jesse’s; she tried her best to see his eyes through the tears and said: “Hi, I am Mei. It was nice meeting you too…” Before she could finish, she felt a strong pull from Jesse’s hand and found herself deeply fallen into his arms. She saw sparkles of the candle light reflection in his eyes and felt the warmth from his breath; slowly he ran his fingers down her face till they stopped beneath her chin. Just like in her dreams, he gently lifted her face up and pressed his lips softly over hers. She closed her eyes and let herself completely melt in his embrace.
Mei listened to Jesse’ side of the story and found out how he now just started an IT consulting company in Raleigh. He wanted to give his career a fresh start before showing up at her door. It was a complete coincident that he saw Tammy and Jim one day at the mall and that’s how this whole blind date idea was formed into shape.
Just as they were talking, Mei saw Tammy, Jim and Tammy’s Dad Randy walked up to their table. Tammy was so relieved to see Mei; she ran over and gave Mei a big hug: “I am so glad you guys worked out! You got me worried a little bit with all the ‘I am not ready to date’ attitude. Oh and before you get mad at me, see this is not a complete lie, we did show up for dinner.”
They all moved over to a bigger table, and ordered and ate truly as a family. On Mei’s left, Tammy and Jim were two love birds hugging and kissing and almost feeding off of each other’s hands; while on her right, Randy was rambling on about his plan to digitize his newspaper empire and wouldn’t stop asking for Jesse’s insight as he learned about his new consulting business. Talks, laughter, and the feeling of love completely surrounded Mei as she sat there and suddenly realized that her wildest birthday wish was just coming true in front of her eyes.
Mei looked up above and whispered with a smile: “Thank you.”
