剧情介绍：
赌徒贺义 为爱戒赌
义乃当押店东主贺年的独生子，受到过度溺爱，为典型二世祖，不务正业，终日流连鸿福赌坊，更试过因不眠不休地赌博而疲劳过度，晕倒街头。幸被美丽善良的杜 丽莹所救，义更对莹大生好感，展开追求。
义得知莹在慈幼局工作，遂请缨角逐慈幼局总理一职，希望博得佳人一笑，但却遇上“青梅竹马”的宿敌曾德胜，胜乃鸿福赌坊少东，因觊觎慈幼局的土地，想得来 改建为赌场，就跟义竞争，义决以赌局来跟胜作一了断，结果义大胜，夺得总理一位，义以为莹会为此倾情，岂料莹因父亲杜济森因赌博而把家财散尽，母亲郁郁而 终，因而对赌极其厌恶，所以对义不存好感。但义却是遇强越强，加上喜好追求胜利的感觉，对莹追求之意不减反增。
义遇上莹父杜济森，森多年来仍未戒赌，竟和义一拍即合，义更提供赌本供森赌博，此事被莹得悉，莹勃然大怒，加上莹见胜开设字花，引发出不少家庭问题，莹遂 发起一连串派传单、演街头剧的反赌运动，而县官尚吉祥就借此机禁赌，目的是向胜等人榨取金钱。而莹更得知义、森于义家开赌，大义灭亲，向县衙举报，把义一 家拘禁，义为之气结。结果义为了可以继续赌博，想出“防务经费”一词，巧立名目，令赌坊重开，莹为此跟义大吵一场，二人不欢而散。义更为了跟莹怄气，以赌 发泄，赌足三日三夜，结果不小心滑倒，自赌坊二楼跌下，撞伤头颅，昏迷不醒..........
