一家食店，贯穿四代女子的命运，反映不同年代婚姻关系及女性面对的各种压力。 清末。魏瑜凤(佘诗曼)家道中落，无奈与汪毓麟(陈键锋)结婚。其后麟将家业败光，凤变卖初恋情人余赐(马德钟)的定情信物，创立凤凰楼。五四时期。凤女儿汪子君(佘诗曼分饰)跟教师李吉祥(马德钟分饰)私奔走到天津，二人最后各走各路。君返回北京，凤凰楼奄奄一息。
六十年代末。凤的外孙女白慧珍(佘诗曼分饰)瞒着丈夫戴立仁(马德钟分饰)工作。仁以偷情报复，二人的婚姻告终。此际，二人受命一同负责凤凰楼的宣传计划。
二十一世纪。凤的曾孙女儿戴思嘉(佘诗曼分饰)和方家安(马德钟分饰)因为过于自我而结束了同居的关系。分开后，嘉拿着世代相传的凤凰楼食谱开设凤凰楼私房菜，重展百年家业。
