在二十世纪三十年代的上海滩，红牌舞女梁云袖出淤泥而不染，不但得到舞女蔓丽的真挚友情，富家公子赵龙飞和小商人陈光明更是对她一片痴心。云袖不重名利， 嫁给性格怯懦的光明，婚后一心相夫教子，安心以裁缝为业养家。谁知商场失意的光明，竟与女大学生赵凤翔有染，赵凤翔为光明生下一个儿子后，自杀身亡。光明 失魂落魄，不久因杀人而畏罪潜逃，从此下落不明。
     云袖坚强地独自抚养亲生儿子士廷，同时怀着母爱之心默默抚养赵凤翔为陈光明生下的儿子纪翔。可是士廷却像父亲光明一样毫无担待，为了个人名利，抛弃 了恋人美青，选择了能帮助他平步青云的周家大小姐安娜。灯红酒绿中，他渐渐变得唯利是图，与始终追求云袖的赵龙飞对立。云袖虽然有意接受赵龙飞，但士廷对 龙飞的刻意排斥，曼丽对龙飞的狂热追求，特别是龙飞竟是凤翔的哥哥，这一系列现实的烦恼成为云袖与龙飞之间的巨大屏障。不过，云袖没有气馁，她对真爱的执 着追求感动了所有人，为救士廷而落得终身残疾的龙飞更是对她情深似海，终于有情人成为眷属。
