《射雕英雄传》香港无线拍了两次，就是大家熟悉的翁美玲版和朱茵版，当年翁以本剧一炮而红，时而俏皮时而倔强的表情令人又爱又惜，黄日华的演出相对较平 常。朱茵版拍得相当用心，忠于原著，许多细节也处理得不错，张智霖确有几分傻样，朱茵人漂亮，演出有几分翁美玲的影子，像玩辫子和噘嘴时。演杨康的罗嘉良 真是像极了，他真有点小王爷的富贵样和坏到骨子里的气质，最为大家垢病的则是那两个演黄药师和周伯通的了，实在是前人太出色，难望其项背。
南宋末年，局势纷乱，郭、杨两家无辜惨遭灭门，其后人各散东西。郭家后人郭靖（张智霖）生长于大漠，为人正直坚毅，自小得江湖七怪传授武艺。在一次南下江 南的过程中，他不但结识了精灵活泼的黄蓉（朱茵），二人发生一段生死相许的恋情，更前后习得北丐洪七公（刘丹）的降龙十八掌及周伯通（黎耀祥）的九阴真 经，因而武艺大为精进。杨家后人杨康（罗嘉良）为金人完颜洪烈所收养，贵为太子。及后杨康得知自己身世，更查出完颜洪烈（王伟）是杀父仇人，但在利欲驱使 下，竟认贼做父。在机缘巧合下，杨康获知郭靖身怀“九阴真经”绝学，并知晓盖世兵书“武穆遗书”的下落，誓言要从郭靖身上取得这两本绝学，因此联合西毒欧 阳峰，意欲借刀杀人，令郭靖一步一步走向死亡陷阱中……
