Stocks fall on weaker-than-expected GDP and consumer data, news that the government has started a criminal investigation of Goldman Sachs sent financial stocks tumbling. Financial stocks were the worst- performing group by far on the day. Goldman shares dropped $15.04, or 9.4 percent, to $145.20.

Next week, The jobs report will be the big news of the week-- if the oil spill doesn't overwhelm everything.
