It is difficult not to imagine animals occasionally and sometimes the temptation cannot be resisted at all. So, here are ten lovely pictures of animals “in love”, which will melt your heart and perhaps even cause a tear to be shed.
Love Cats

Although not a professionally taken photograph, I love the almost symmetrical poise of the two cats involved – almost mirror images of each other. Quite delightful!
True Love

Swans are wonderful birds (unless you get too close) and their courtship ritual is prolonged and intense. Here a courting pair gaze deeply in to each others’ eyes. It is little wonder that swans mate for life.
Fierce Love
“Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired.” – Robert Frost

Although this looks quite unfriendly, this wild behavior quite often leads to the wild thing itself. I hope this photograph was taken with a zoom lense; this pair don’t look too friendly and after a bout of love making may well get the munchies!
Pally Parrots

The beautiful colors of these two parrots merge together to give an almost kaleidoscopic effect. I love the contrasts of the colors here – how vivid, almost blinding, it must be to see these magnificent birds in their own habitat.

I have never seen hippos mate – and I am not sure I would ever want to! These two lovely creatures seem to be getting on together remarkably well, so perhaps the photographer left them alone after this shot was taken!

What do seals become in winter? Little Otters! A very British joke so apologies to those of you not versed in our peculiar sense of humor! This pair look very comfortable in the sunlight – like two celebrities on a beach unaware of the paparazzi!

Love involves more than passion but a mutual caring. This is a great photo of the supportiveness that comes with an intimate and close relationship. Cute stuff.

Giraffes, despite their ungainly first appearance are one of the most elegant animals on the planet. Their courtship is a remarkable spectacle which involves a lot of intertwining of necks. Just as well they’re not made of rubber.

Tender Love
“Like the measles, love is most dangerous when it comes late in life.” – Lord Byron
I know we have already had a picture of a pair of lions, but this was such a wonderful juxtaposition to the first picture that I could not resist it! A tender moment shared between a lion and his lioness, this really makes you go all warm inside!
Love’s Labors Lost
“They do not love that do not show their love. The course of true love never did run smooth. Love is a familiar. Love is a devil. There is no evil angel but Love.” – William Shakespeare
This is a truly sad picture, of a swallow that has lost its mate to a car. The plaintive cry as it tries to rouse its life partner is superbly caught in this affecting photograph. A sad note on which to leave, but there you have it!
