EM 10g Grid Control  Overview

Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control provides a single interface for monitoring and managing your entire Oracle eco-system. The base level functionality includes:

  • enterprise health status including target availability
  • real-time monitoring and alerting
  • database/application server administration and maintenance
  • target grouping
  • job automation
  • enterprise reporting

1.      Database homepage

The Oracle Database Home page allows you to view the current state of the database by displaying a series of metrics that portray the overall health of the database.

·         General: provides a quick view of the status of the database and provides basic information about the database.

·         Host CPU: displays a graph showing relative CPU utilization of the Oracle host.

·         Active Sessions: displays the number of active sessions and the associated time spent in various states.

·         SQL Response Time: provides the current response time relative to a reference base line.

·         Diagnostic Summary: outline the number of Automatic Database Diagnostics Monitor(ADDM) findings.

·         Space Summary: displays the total size of the database and also lists the number of problem tablespaces comprising the database.

·         High Availability: displays the time of the last backup for pre-Oracle 10g database, and the most recent backup time and whether or not the backup was successful for Oracle version 10g database.

·         Alerts: provides information about any alerts that have been issued along with the severity rating of each.

·         Related Alerts: provides information about alerts for related targets, such as Listener and Host and contains details about the message, time the alert was triggered, the value, and the time the alert was last checked

·         Job Activity: displays a report of the job executions, showing the scheduled, running, suspended and problems executions.

·         Related Links: display all metrics available for the current database.

  1. Database Administration/ Maintenance
    The Administration page allows you to perform various administrative tasks, including managing users and roles, database resources, schemas and objects, storage, and database settings.
  2. Managing Groups
    Provides the ability to group together either databases or hosts for improved manageability.
  3. Managing Jobs
    Provides a job system that allows administrators to automate the running of adhoc or periodic tasks against individual systems or groups of systems. Administrators can use any of the predefined database job tasks or define their own logic using custom OS or SQL scripts.
  4. Enterprise Reporting
    Reports are categorized in the following areas: Deployment and Configuration, Enterprise Manager Setup, Monitoring, Security, and Storage.
