Second amendment and first amendment

I do not own any firearm and I am a support of the 2nd amendment. A stinging second amendment supporter and firearms owner once said the following.  
 

Not because some criminals commit crimes with firearms, we should deprive law biding citizens of owning firearms. The same thing can be said about the first amendment, not because there are bad actors rioting and destroying properties, we should punish lawful and peaceful protests.  The protesters deserve our support.  

When we give up our rights to protest and peacefully assemble, will the second amendment be next to go? And what is the purpose of second amendment if the first amendment is no longer there?  Rights are rights. 

 

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the rights of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
