自己动手 Hyundai Veracruz- How to change oil and oil filter

DIY- How to change oil and oil filter of Hyundai Veracruz.

Applied to 07-09 Hyundai Veracruz AWD, maybe other 6cyl Hyundai vehicles.

Why? Per Hyundai, oil and oil filter need to be changed every 7,500 miles.

Time needed once experienced: Less than 30 (15 for labor and 15 for draining oil) minutes. Easiest oil change I ever had as smart oil filter design.

Parts and tools required:
1. 6 quarts of 5W20 oil and oil filter. You need OEM oil filters from dealer which could be ordered on-line. Generic filters will NOT fit, believe me.
2. Protective gloves.
3. Ratcheting wrench and socket set. You might need breaker bar if nuts was stuck.
4. Oil drain pan and empty milk bottle
5. or could be replaced by dealer or repair shop for 30 to 50 dollars. 

Step-by-step:
1. You DO NOT need to raise your car. Park the car in flat and well-lit area and don't block driveway or traffic. Park brake tight. Turn on the engine and warm up for 5 minutes, then turn off the engine.

2. Underneath the car between two front wheels, find oil pan drain plug. Use wrench to unscrew drain plug and drain used oil to pan. Let it drain for about 15 minutes. 

3. Open the the hood and remove the engine cover by unscrew six hex nuts. Next to engine at driver's side, you'll see black plastic housing. Unscrew it with both hands or using a wrench, pull the filter insert out. Put the new filter insert with new rubber o-ring into the housing and screw back with both hands.

4. Put back the drain plug and tighten with wrench after finish the draining. Don't over-tighten or you'll have trouble next time to remove.

5. Refill new oil and screw back the cap. Put back the engine cover. Turn on the engine to check any leak. You are done. Don't forget to recycle used oil free at Walmart or local auto stores. 

Tip. Read your new vehicle warranty. I recommend Mobil One full synthetic 15,000 miles extended oil. You'll get better mileage and longer protection.

If you use extended mileage synthetic oil, all you need to do is to change oil filter every 5,000 miles (about every 4 months. It takes about 5 minutes) and change oil every 15,000 miles (about once a year). You need get under your car only once a year.
