Portrait is a profession of high threshould

I compared above picture with a portrait painting, realized why that painting did not bring further commission to that artist. Only individuals who follow a rigourous training program and demonstrate their suitability to serve the public with a high level of competence, are survival to be in this profession although no license required.We may say that competition in this area is based on real competence compare to other art forms. 
The most successful oversea Chinese artist in this area is Chen Yanning, one of whose works I happen to viewed in New York, with awe and pleasure. It is not far from truth that the most challenging and sometimes the best art form is at this theme--portraiture and further, large scale genre.  Beside drawing, color, etc. none is easy, but there is additional barrier that is in design, of that most of practicing portrait painters are lacking more or less.  
Portraiture, with demand and lucrative reward, is pursued by Americans in not a small number, I wish Chinese artists of younger generation be aware of it and take a firm resolution, to become a member of portrait artists as well as representative artists.
