A glimpse of a portrait artist's management 2010-03-12 08:50:25

1. Enquiry
from a potential client: "Hello. I really like your style of painting, and would like to know more about your work. Do you work solely in oil? I am interested in a portrait approximately 14 x 18, head and shoulders. Can you let me know your fees? Thank you. G..."

2. Discuss
I phoned to her: "............... ................ How old are your child?" "Six. I wish not too late to catch..." "That is ideal age ... I would like to take you to see their portraits at your neighborhood, two of them are two-four blocks away." "The price for oil is xxxx." It seems O.K. for her. "I myself has a portrait in a similar size." She said. That means a lot for carrying the tradition down. For nailing on this deal, I should:
1). Carry my portfolio consists of 20 samples, postcards and couple of my real paintings.
2). Discuss about her liking, turn out time, "Out of country" worry.
3). If it is possible to upgrade her demand, for this case, I decided to keep at the small size. A notebook is necessary.
4). Referral incentive and share a travel cost plan. Extra Giclee available.
5). Show a portrait at a real location.
6). Plan for photo shooting schedule. (light, weekend, afternoon, but avoid tall order), I may take my camera.
7). Collect 1/3 fees, once agreement is set.
8). Observe the subject, may do sketch or color study.
