BBC. Barenboim on Beethoven - Masterclass on the Sonatas

Renowned pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim's masterclasses on Beethoven's piano sonatas were recorded at Symphony Hall, Chicago. January 2005

The featured works are: the Appassionata Sonata, Op. 57; the first movement of Sonata Op. 31 No. 1 and the third movement of Sonata Op. 109.

Barenboim takes each player through their chosen sonata movement, illustrating the importance of structure and the relationships between tempo, harmony and dynamics.
