Composer Howard Goodall takes a historical look at the year 1564 and the development of sacred music in the Catholic and Protestant churches, with instrumental music rapidly gaining in importance as was ballet, being championed by Catherine de' Medici, Queen of France, and the violin dominating her dance bands, from which the orchestra would emerge.
