Must I give a new w-4 to my employer to change my marriage status from married to single?

the federal income tax withholding as married is much more than as head of household or single in my case. That means that the withholding is much more if i do not change from married to head of household or single. I am ok with that more tax withholding.

can i choose not to hand in the new-W-4 and still keep the marriage status married in my W-2? you know, i do not want to let my boss know that i divorced. what is the bad result if i do not change the marriage status at my W-2? any affect on my 485 approval?

I would say just go ahead and tell the truth. Sooner or later someone will find out and the boss with hear it.

If you want to hide something, you will find yourself in the situation that you have to come up with new explanations/lies to cover the old one. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to tell the truth. The process is stressful, not worth a try.

Your 485 should not be affected but don't take my word for it as I do not know anything about immigration laws.
