错误连连,美国银行管理上有漏洞?

今天我去花旗银行的一家分行存卖彩票的现金,因为过去曾发生过多起我数的钱数和银行工作人员不一致的现象,这次临行前我特意反复数过三遍,在确定数额正确无误的情况我才赶往银行,可谓胸有成竹。但意外还是发生了,下面是我和前台服务员之间的对话:

 

"有什么可以帮忙吗?"

"我想存钱。"

"存多少?"

"我数过了,你再数数吧。"

"$1700。"

"不对,是2000。"

那个女人看了我一眼,又低头数了一遍说:

"是1700。"

"不对,是2000,你为什么不用点钞机数一下呢?"

 

我建议她,她没理睬我,又数起来。然后对我说:

"啊,我忘了加这300元了,是1900元。"

"不对,是2000元。"

 

那个服务员脸色越来越难看,如果用天来形容她的脸色的话此刻真可谓乌云密布。我很反感,因为几个月前我来存钱遇到的就是她,把900元硬说成是600,直到我纠正后她才改过来。这样的事情过去也曾发生过几次,由于不自信,和出于对美国银行的信任,我都采取默认的态度,现在想来真有些后怕。

 

"请你帮我数一下好吗?"

 

看来多说无益,这样下去只能把事情搞僵,于是我避重就轻,对另外一个服务员说。

 

"可以。"

两人经过简单的交接,我的钱转到另一个女人的手中,女人数了两遍,盯着别处小声说:

 

"是2000。"

先前的那个女人看了她一眼没说话,我有点生气于是看着她追问一句:

 

"你不是说1700元吗?"

 

那个女人竟然一点羞愧和歉意都没有,就好像什么都没发生一样,对我的问话置若罔闻。

 

我突然想起过去种种发生的事,明明是我吃了轻信的哑巴亏,她还总是咄咄逼人,甚至嘲笑我。我原想找他们经理谈谈这件事,正巧一个朋友也来这家银行办事。他问我发生了什么,我当着那个服务员的面把事情的原委又说了一遍。朋友只说了句这种事很可能,还说在门外等我就出去了,我想在这个问题上他是外人,不好多说什么,所以拿好收据也跟了出去。

 

"这里怎么像黑店,你将来得小心一点啊。" 我忿忿不平地对朋友说。

 

记得上次发生类似的事情后我也写了篇博文,有的读者在回贴中说美国银行管理上很健全,尤其是美国银行的对外机构都有摄像头,可以监控所有服务人员的工作,我当时还想可能是她一时搞错了。然而这种事屡屡发生在我身上就不能不说明问题,过去都是以我默认收场,几个月前我发现问题后和她认真起来,她才把错误矫正过来。但这次她似有持无恐的故伎重演,就说明美国银行在管理上确实存在漏洞,那些监控设备形同虚设,根本没有起到敲山震虎的作用。

If the transaction totality printed on the ticket was correct, your money should be safe. The management “kicked the ball” for other reasons: the branch manager treated your issue as a complain, because the problem should be solve by the person who opened the ATM, maybe the staff in that sub-branch or in a special ATM team belong to the branch; moreover, the management did not like to disclose more internal issues. Anyway you lost precious time.

Your boss's considerations were appreciated. However, the extra $2000 was more likely to be claimed back, unless your boss evaporated. Monitor videos are so useful for this case, always.

luckylv 回复 悄悄话 Oh, by the way, also about 10 years ago, my Taiwan boss went to the Washington Mutual bank on Grant Ave (Chintown branch) to withdraw $3000. The Chinese teller counted and handed him $5000. He smiled and told her to count again, the teller did and said it was correct. My boss was nice to point out it was $2000 extra....
I was only 18 yr old and didnt understand why my boss was so honest-- he said the teller was just making a little bit above minimum wage, if he took the money from her, then she would have to pay back to the bank, which may cause her a whole month paycheck.
I guess, we are all human being and we all make mistake.

ATM is even worse. about 10 years ago, I have been deposit all my Ebay checks at the ATM window at Wellsfargo bank and they lost some of my checks and they didn't do anything about it. I had talked to supervisor, branch manager, ect, but they always kick the ball back and forth.

御树林枫 回复 悄悄话 我上回说的好清楚了:这种情况,单人临柜风险在客户身上。即使有监控设备,也要从客户方发起请求回放。可以试试ATM。
nissanusedcar 回复 悄悄话 If you have your own checking or savings account in citibank, you can use their automatic deposit / withdrawl machines by your debit card and avoid contacting those tellers.
luckylv 回复 悄悄话 我每次去存钱的时候都是先数两三次,写下总数. 再让老公数两三次写下总数再拿到银行去. 自己的钱怎么能相信一个teller呢.
另外我总是先写好 $100 $50 $20 $5 再数有多少张 $100, $50...
这样就比较易合算起来. 因为如果数几千元的话很容易数乱的.
再有把钱拿给teller 时在钱上贴上总数多少. 让teller 数到准为止.心里有底心里有数就不怕再遭到效滑or笨teller 啦.
最后最重要的是核对收据, 回来店里再上网进入帐户核对一次.存好收据以防万一.
